This position plays a vital role in supporting the city's infrastructure and daily operations, from maintaining streets and sidewalks to handling essential sanitation services. A key responsibility includes operating the City's Drop-Off Site, where you'll be the front line of customer service, assisting residents with proper disposal, collecting fees, and ensuring the site stays clean, organized, and efficient. Your contributions-whether it's guiding a resident through recycling, patching up roadways, or plowing snow-will be visible across neighborhoods and appreciated by the entire West Allis community.

The City of West Allis invests in your future by offering paid training for a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)-giving you access to more responsibilities, higher pay, and long-term career growth in public works.

This position is scheduled Tuesday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, and Saturday, 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM.

Examples of Duties

  • Assist residents at the City's residential Drop-Off Site
  • Build and deliver garbage and recycling carts
  • Support bulk item, brush, garbage, and recycling collection crews
  • Perform roadwork: crack sealing, asphalt patching, and concrete repairs
  • Mow and trim grass on city property, culverts, and ditches
  • Pick up litter along boulevards and city fence lines
  • Provide snow and ice control using plow-equipped pickup trucks
  • Help clean, maintain, and operate the Drop-Off Site facilities

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and meets the city's driving ordinance
  • Willingness and ability to obtain CDL Class B or C with air brake endorsement (training provided)
  • Physical labor experience preferred
  • Strong commitment to teamwork, punctuality, and public service.
