The Opportunity The Design Technology Manager will lead the digital transformation of our Substation and Battery Storage design practices. This strategic leadership role will drive the adoption and evolution of BIM (primarily Revit), design automation, and digital workflows across multidisciplinary teams. You'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of infrastructure delivery, leading innovation, mentoring a growing team, and collaborating on cutting-edge initiatives that define the next generation of design technology in the energy sector. You'll also partner closely with our Engineering Center of Excellence to align digital design strategies with enterprise-wide engineering standards, innovation goals, and best practices. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in managing Revit environments, developing and maintaining high-quality content libraries, and designing strategic workflows that enhance efficiency, consistency, and collaboration across project teams. What You'll Do Strategic Leadership & Innovation
- Lead a team of BIM professionals that will be responsible for the creation and maintenance of software templates, tools, and scripts to assure high standards across the enterprise.
- Manage organizational change and implementation around BIM project delivery and design automation efforts.
- Drive adoption and use of 3D design and modeling software including but not limited to incorporating new version releases and customization of the product deployments.
- Manage the implementation of supporting software for project delivery such as Autodesk Construction Cloud.
- Evaluate new modeling and project delivery related software and technologies to enhance productivity and project performance.
- Stay informed on best practices for use of software impacting digital design.
- Promote integration and efficiency tools, computational workflows, and automation to increase effectiveness in the project delivery process.
- Lead efforts to drive modeling efficiency in all service areas.
- Build generative design and modeling automation capability.
- Responsible for design and modeling standards development, implementation, training, enforcement, enhancement, and change management.
- Lead continuous improvement exercises for client-based workflows.
- Work with various committees to strategize project delivery software best practices, guidelines, and implementation across all offices.
- Create written technology evaluations and budgets for future technology adoption that align with the company-wide goals.
- Evaluate and report on the firm's current workflow, strategies, budgets, projects, staffing, etc.
- Establish a workflow process that promotes user involvement in forming feedback channels to continue to improve and enhance existing project delivery software and standards.
- Manage subject matter experts in design delivery software.
- Manage user groups in design delivery software.
- Lead fundamental, intermediate, and expert training on design software and related processes.
- Conduct internal continuing education training and working sessions.
- Lead technical orientation for new hires regarding design software.
- Attend conferences, seminars, and workshops on BIM, AI and design automation and incorporate learning into company processes and training.
- Support project standards and coordination with customers.
- Assist project teams with strategic project setup and execution planning.
- Develop and maintain annual roadmaps for BIM content strategy, tooling, and library development, while tracking and reporting progress against key milestones to leadership and stakeholders.
Team Development & Support
- Lead, coach, and develop a team responsible for BIM operations and strategy.
- Provide training, onboarding, and continuous education for new and existing Revit users.
- Encourage a growth mindset while fostering a collaborative, innovative, and continuously improving team environment.
- Lead a team of design technology experts that can assist with project work, including support for modeling and detailing questions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with our Engineering Center of Excellence to align digital design strategies with enterprise-wide engineering standards, innovation goals, and best practices.
- Partner with our Computational Design and Automation teams to integrate generative design and Revit add-ins.
- Develop and manage partnerships and alignment with Lifeline Sector leadership.
- Coordinate with the QA/QC team to assist in evaluation of and increasing adherence to company standards.
- Collaborate and manage external partnerships.
- Collaborate with IT and software vendors to manage hardware, licensing, deployment, and integration of BIM-related tools and platforms.
What We Expect from You
- Degree in Engineering, Design, Business Management or other related field; 4-year degree preferred, 2-year degree considered with experience.
- 8+ years of experience in design technology, BIM, or digital design leadership.
- Strong leadership and project management experience. Prior management experience preferred.
- Deep expertise in managing Revit environments, developing and maintaining high-quality content libraries, and designing strategic workflows to enhance efficiency, consistency, and collaboration across project teams.
- Strong ability to manage and prioritize multiple, concurrent projects while meeting aggressive deadlines in a fast-paced environment, including ability to manage multiple teams, with extensive project planning and execution skills.
- Excellent communication, change management, problem-solving and relationship building skills.
- Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.
Candidate Preferences:
- Experience in Substation, Battery Storage, and/or Transmission and Distribution.
- Familiarity with Dynamo, Python scription, and/or Revit API.
