Director of People Safety

Position Description and Purpose:

The Director of People Safety is responsible for overseeing and implementing safety programs and policies to ensure the well-being of employees. This role involves developing strategies to prevent workplace injuries, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and fostering a culture of safety within the organization.

Key Essential Functions/Duties:

• Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs and policies.
• Conduct regular safety audits and inspections.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards.
• Investigate workplace accidents and incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Provide training and education to employees on safety practices and procedures.
• Collaborate with other departments to integrate safety into all aspects of operations.
• Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities and incidents.
• Lead the development of emergency response plans and procedures.
• Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and external safety audits.

Compliance and Safety Program Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations.
• Develop and maintain safety documentation and records.
• Implement and oversee workers' compensation programs.
• Coordinate with legal and HR departments on safety-related issues.
• Stay updated on changes in safety regulations and best practices.

Education/Experience/Skills/Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in safety management or a related role.
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to analyze data and develop actionable safety strategies.
• Experience in conducting safety audits and inspections.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
• Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST).
• Experience in manufacturing or industrial settings.
• Knowledge of ergonomic principles and practices.
