LOCATION: White Sands, New Mexico

JOB STATUS: Full-time

CLEARANCE: Secret (Active)

CERTIFICATION: CHMM / ISO14001 / OSHA HAZPOWER / DoD ECAMP

TRAVEL: As Needed

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Officer to support the Army Division on the WSMR Mission Support Services program. The Environmental Officer (EO) is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, and policies at the federal, state, local, Department of Defense, and Army levels. This includes adherence to White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) Environmental Policy and Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements. The EO serves as the on-site point of contact for environmental compliance during operational hours and works closely with the WSMR Test Center Environmental Office to coordinate environmental matters. The role also involves preparation for inspections, participation in quarterly meetings, and completion of required environmental training.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Education:
    • Must have a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field with five years experience in the environmental management field.
  • Certifications:
    • Training in safety/environmental courses, seminars, or certifications
      • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

      • ISO 14001:2015 EMS Auditor/Lead Auditor Certification

      • OSHA HAZWOPER Certification (40-hour)

      • DoD Environmental Compliance Assessment and Management Program (ECAMP) Training

  • Experience:
    • Extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of environmentally related Federal, State, local, Department of Defense (DoD), and Army laws, regulations, and policies-along with a proven track record of success-may be considered in lieu of formal educational requirements.
    • Proficiency in a variety of computer applications, including:
      • Word processing software
      • Spreadsheet software
      • Database applications
      • Project and presentation software
      • Email, contact management, and scheduling software
    • Strong interpersonal skills with effective oral and written communication abilities

    • Solid administrative capabilities and team-building skills

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    • Ability to take on challenges and manage risk proactively

    • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment, including availability for long hours, shift work, weekends, and holidays as needed

  • Security Clearance:
    • Must possess active Secret clearance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, DoD, and Army environmental laws and regulations

  • Adhere to the WSMR Environmental Policy and EMS requirements

  • Monitor daily operations to ensure environmental compliance

  • Coordinate environmental matters with the WSMR Test Center Environmental Office

  • Serve as the local point of contact for internal and external environmental inspections

  • Participate in quarterly Environmental Officer (EO) meetings conducted by the government

  • Complete initial and annual refresher EO training provided by the government

  • Ensure compliance with regulations related to Satellite Accumulation Points (SAPs)

  • Maintain Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) control for all materials

  • Oversee proper handling of hazardous materials and ensure use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
