About the Position

Reporting to the Director of Health Services, the Health Care Compliance Officer is responsible for directing and administering a comprehensive departmental Health Care Compliance Program to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health care regulations. In addition, the duties will include:

• Implementing written compliance policies, procedures, and standards of conduct

• Supervising the team of Health Care Compliance Analysts

• Implementing effective lines of communication and reporting with staff

• Conducting and tracking compliance training and education for staff

• Enforcing standards through well-publicized disciplinary guidelines in partnership with the Department of Health Services' Human Resources team

• Conducting internal monitoring, auditing, and regular compliance risk assessments

• Responding promptly to detected compliance offenses and undertaking corrective actions

• Consulting periodically with County Counsel, executive management, and external legal counsel and consultants specializing in health care

• Establishing and maintaining health care compliance oversight and providing information to the Board of Supervisors and Compliance Governance Committees as needed

 

As the ideal candidate for this position, you will have excellent analytical skills to research, interpret, and implement regulatory mandates and possess many of the following:

• Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to health care providers

• Experience with health care compliance and the seven elements of an effective compliance program

• Advanced writing, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills

• The ability to utilize data to drive decision-making

• Advanced presentation and public speaking skills

• Strong time and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently

• A high degree of integrity, strong moral principles, and an honest desire to do the right thing

• An approachable, trustworthy, empathetic, and communicative demeanor

• The ability to create positive relationships and foster a culture of transparency and compliance

• Conflict resolution skills, resilience, and confidence when addressing challenging situations
