Work Location Los Alamos National Laboratory - Los Alamos, NM Employment Type Full-Time / Onsite Clearance Type DOE Q Clearance (Position will be cleared to this level) Job Summary / Overview Omega Technical Services is seeking a Deputy Group Leader for the Modern Manufacturing (E-2) Group at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM.
The Modern Manufacturing (E-2) Group is seeking an experienced and driven leader to partner with the Group Leader to provide engineering leadership and operational management for the group.
- Ensure effective program development, program execution, operational compliance, adherence to safety and security policies and processes, fiscal stewardship, strategic initiatives and employee development.
- Expected to conduct technical or research activities which are in alignment with capabilities of the group.
- Valued member of the E Division management team and will report to the E-2 Group Leader.
- Responsible for providing engineering research and development of cutting-edge manufacturing processes and support for various customers spanning a diverse portfolio of projects across the Laboratory, with special emphasis on component design for manufacturing, additive manufacturing, embedded sensing, in-process inspection techniques, programmatic risk analysis, process modeling, and systemic decision support.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated success in the leadership and management of a program, line organization or large engineering project.
- Experience in recruiting, evaluating, mentoring and retaining talented undergraduate students, graduate students, postdocs and staff
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more of the group's mission areas (design for manufacturing, additive manufacturing, embedded sensing, in process inspection, decision/risk analysis).
- Demonstrated successful application of sound business practices in such areas as performance improvement and project management
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to engage in technical conversations with all levels of staff, the ability to discuss program strategies with current and potential funding agencies, an ability to delegate tasks to staff and administrators, and an ability to interact with all levels of Laboratory management.
- This also includes the ability to appropriately communicate externally with other laboratories, universities, and industrial partners
- Experience in building collaborative partnerships across organizations.
- Demonstrated success in developing and sustaining engineering programs that attract support from financial partners and customers.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with customers to identify project needs, define resources, and bring technical efforts to a successful and timely completion.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- Master's degree in a relevant technical field preferred.
Desired Qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge of one or more of the group's mission areas (design for manufacturing, additive manufacturing, embedded sensing, in process inspection, autonomous robotics, decision/risk analysis), as demonstrated by technical development and implementation.
- Knowledge of Nuclear Weapons Programs, Global Security Programs, NNSA, DOE, LDRD and DoD Programs.
- Experience with the processes and organizations providing key deliverables for LANL missions.
- Successful solicitation of diverse funding streams, including experience in developing proposals and/or work packages.
- Ability to obtain a Q Clearance, which normally requires U.S. Citizenship.
