Job Description Summary |
The
ITS Reporting and Analytics Analyst is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the technical infrastructure required to support business intelligence solutions, including the data lake, data pipelines, and reporting tools. This role ensures that data from multiple systems is efficiently integrated, transformed, and made available for analysis, reporting, and decision-making. The
ITS Reporting and Analytics Analyst works closely with Institutional Research and University stakeholders to ensure that the data architecture supports the university's reporting needs while maintaining data quality, security, and scalability. In addition, the Reporting and Analytics Analyst works with Institutional Research and the Controller to update the Academic Program Portfolio Review (
APPR) data and dashboards. This role provides backup support to the Data Integration Analyst as needed. |
Essential Functions |
- Design, build, and maintain the university's data infrastructure to consolidate data from various systems (e.g., Slate, Colleague, Handshake, Moodle, PowerFAIDS etc) into a centralized repository for reporting and analytics.
- Design, develop, and optimize data pipelines to ensure data is extracted from source systems and loaded into the data lake or other analytics platforms. Develop and maintain business logic to support reporting and analytics
- Develop and maintain logical and physical data models that incorporate business logic to support analytical and reporting needs. Ensure that data models are optimized for efficient querying and reporting.
- Work with reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Entrinsik) to ensure data availability for dashboards and reports. Optimize data structures and queries to improve reporting performance.
- Collaborate with Institutional Research, IT Business Analysts, and end users to understand reporting and analytics requirements. Provide technical solutions to meet those needs while ensuring scalability and performance.
- Develop institutional reports and dashboards as needed based on ticket requests and project implementations.
- Monitor the performance of data pipelines, databases, and reporting tools. Optimize queries, data structures, and processes to improve efficiency and reduce load times.
- Document technical processes, data flows, and data models. Provide training and support to end users and data analysts on BI tools, data structures, and reporting best practices.
- Participate in the University data governance group and ensure that all BI solutions comply with the university's data governance policies and industry regulations (e.g., FERPA, GDPR). Implement and enforce data quality standards across all BI processes.

Required Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills |
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in business intelligence, data engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with data warehouse technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, Big, SSIS).
- Strong SQL skills and experience with databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server).
- Experience with reporting tools and BI platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Entrinsik etc.
- Familiarity with data modeling, database design, and data architecture.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot data issues.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to plan and work independently is required; ability to research, analyze and promote new technical solutions is desired.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills are a must

Preferred Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills |
- Experience with project management tools and methodologies.
- Experience working in higher education or understanding of education-related data is a plus.
