Overview

The Clinical Laboratory Manager manages and directs the overall operations of assigned laboratory and diagnostic services section(s).
Qualifications

Certifications:

  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or
  • Medical Technologist (MT)

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Science

Work Experience:

  • Clinical Laboratory - 5 years and
  • Leadership - 3 years

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of clinical laboratory operations.
  • Personnel management experience.
  • Understanding of revenue cycle and registration processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work both independently and effectively with others.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Recommends and initiates personnel actions for hires
  • Conducts performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensures staff members are adequately trained and are competent to perform all required job duties.
  • Develops metrics and monitors laboratory performance and when necessary
  • Takes steps to improve.
  • Prepares an annual budget for the department(s)
  • Monitors, verifies and reconciles expenditures to budget on a periodic basis.
  • Prepares an annual capital budget and submits capital budget requests as needed.
  • Ensures Clinical Laboratory operations are compliant with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates with the medical staff on issues which impact lab and clinical operations.
  • Oversees operations of central processing, referred testing, hematology, chemistry, blood bank and microbiology departments.
  • Directly manages clinical laboratory technical coordinator and supervisor staff.
  • Serves as resource for laboratory leadership dyad.
  • Monitors productivity and efficiency reports for improvement opportunities.
  • Conducts performance evaluations for clinical laboratory personnel
  • Provides periodic check-ins for new associates.
  • Represents the department on hospital committees.
  • Responsible for recruitment activities for all core laboratory personnel.
  • Prepares annual operating and capital budget for core laboratory.
  • Responsible for departments overall state of preparedness for regulatory inspection.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $45.4per hour - $78.09per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
