Job Title: First Line Risk and Control Issue Manager

What you'll do: First Line Risk & Control Manager - This role is a first line of defense risk professional responsible for support and/or execution of various risk programs and Business Unit (BU) risk activities in adherence with the Company's Risk Appetite and Corporate Strategy. This role is responsible for engaging with the BU in management of risks and controls across all risk types, monitoring execution of risk policies, procedures, and/or program requirements, to effectively manage risks, and serving as an effective communication channel between the Risk Management Department and business units.
- Drive proactive and timely identification, management, and oversight of issues per WAB requirements
- Identification of thematic root causes underlying control failure\s and facilitating the planning and execution of effective remediation of control gaps
- Manage a portfolio of Issues, collaborate with stakeholders from all lines of defense to resolve roadblocks and facilitate solutioning with senior leaders
- Liaise within the organization to ensure connectivity with enterprise-wide issue management efforts to enhance Western Alliance safety and soundness
- Development of strong relationships with key stakeholders
- Proactive engagement with control functions to ensure understanding of the First Line of Defense governance program
- Focus on continuous control improvements across all areas to enable the evolutionary design of the overall control framework in an efficient, cost effective, streamlined, and value-add manner
- Development, implementation, maintenance and management of issue data and records within the Issue Management application. (System of Record)
What you'll need:
- 7+ years of related experience or similar field.
- Bachelor's degree in related field required.
- Previous leadership experience required.
- Advanced knowledge of general banking operations, including deposit operations, loan administration, treasury management and/or other commercial banking products and services.
- Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
- Advanced experience in Compliance, Operations Management, Audit, Risk Management, or related field. Advanced analytical skills to determine key areas of focus, summary of meetings and key decisions and actions.
- Advanced knowledge of and experience in documenting process maps in process mapping software. Advanced experience identifying risks and controls in processes and performing/guiding risk and control self-assessments and other risk management activities.
- Expert speaking and writing communication skills.
