Position Description

With only occasional guidance needed from the Vice President, serve as the primary subject matter expert for shipbuilding technologies and Navy technology implementation processes. Provide technical expertise and leadership for business initiatives to accomplish program goals within cost and schedule guidelines. Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance to the business.

Essential Functions:


Responsible for engaging and coordinating with the various Naval program offices, shipyards and other industry and academic partners to facilitate the implementation of technologies to benefit the Navy.

Relied upon subject matter expert in shipbuilding technologies. This encompasses the advanced manufacturing focus areas, as defined by the Department of the Navy Advanced Manufacturing Strategy 2024, of additive manufacturing, subtractive manufacturing, coatings removal, robotics, automation, data analytics, simulation, modeling, and digitalization.

Responsible for the planning and execution of program technical and business meetings.

Proposes, participates in, develops, directs, and executes technical research and development initiatives.

Provides collaborative leadership, facilitation and interface among supported customers / government clients, vendors and users.

Serves as primary point of contact for information regarding the application of shipbuilding technology.

Facilitates technical presentations and business debriefs.

Leads, facilitates, directs and manages initiatives specific to developing and evaluating shipbuilding technology.

Performs research to continually mature working knowledge of technical subjects in support of project research and problem solving

Work in conjunction with technology experts to build and develop solutions to issues.

Provide technical expertise to the division lead and to the technical management team.

Performs as primary Technical Advisor and Subject Matter Expert in the area of shipbuilding technology to customers and as representatives on their behalf.

Additional Responsibilities:

As required, conducts internal and external technical and business briefings.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • PhD and two years' applicable experience; or Master's degree and six years applicable experience; or Bachelor's degree and eight years' applicable experience, which should include planning and performance of technical programs and projects. Degree in Engineering, Science or a related field preferred.
  • Working knowledge of US Navy infrastructure, policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of shipbuilding technology applications, practices and standards specific to the business unit, as well as experience in technical program management.
  • Experience in Department of Defense, and other government programs, desirable.
  • Experience in Shipbuilding.
  • Independent, self-directed worker, team player, problem solver and experienced leader.
  • Excellent communication skills, including presentations, technical reports, meeting facilitation and work group management.
  • Strong computer skills including Excel skills and MS Office
