Description

Overall Responsibility:

The MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) Design Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating all MEP-related activities in Design. This role ensures that all MEP systems are designed, reviewed, delivered within project timelines, and budgets.

Responsible for providing team leadership within large design team for coordinating all design development effort with focus on MEP/IT/LS/Special systems integration into overall design deliverables with architecture. Familiarity with NYC Building Codes, working closely with all parties leading to a high quality deliverable.

Also responsible for staying abreast of changes in the industry and the latest advancements in engineering, as well as proposing solutions to existing problems. Candidate will be required to collaborate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Essential Functions:



  • Provide leadership within large design team specific to building systems disciplines.
  • Coordinate with design teams to develop detailed MEP/IT/LS/Special Systems plans, specifications from specialty subconsultants on team.
  • Coordinate all reviews and approvals of building system designs, shop drawings, and submittals.
  • Ensure compliance with all building codes and regulations.
  • Monitor project progress and address any MEP-related issues.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Needed Skills:

Must have a good understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, information technologies, life safety and special systems that go into institutional buildings and the ability to work on them independently, as well as excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and an eye for detail and accuracy. Skills and qualifications include:



  • Leadership: Provide independent thought and team leadership to group of discipline specific consultants thru proactive and established project design management practices.
  • Analytical skill: The ability to analyze and interpret plans accurately for effective implementation.
  • Problem-solving skill: The ability to identify building system related problems and propose effective solutions working closely with discipline specific consultants and leads.
  • Communication skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills: Ability to prioritize tasks and remain focused in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to create and maintain productive relationships with employees, clients, and vendors.


Education/Experience Minimum:



  • Bachelor's degree Architecture, Building Systems Engineering or related fields.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in MEP/building systems coordination or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and construction standards.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills.
  • Proficiency BIM and AutoCAD.
