DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of five geoscience professionals in the Stratigraphic Studies Section of the Geologic Mapping Division, which is tasked with conducting scientific investigations characterizing the geologic, mineral, and water resources of the Commonwealth. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the Division Manager and Bureau Director to conceive, plan, and supervise field investigations that will be executed by the Stratigraphic Studies Section staff, ensuring that the final product deliverables meet the Bureau's standard of quality. Project work within the section varies in scope and scale from year to year based upon feedback from the Pennsylvania Geologic Mapping Advisor Committee, but can broadly be characterized as bedrock, surficial, and compilation geologic mapping at scales between 1:24,000 and 1:100,000. Recently completed projects include:
- Correlation of coal units within the Broad Top basin
- Characterization of bedrock fractures and structures within the Mesozoic basin in southeast Pennsylvania
- 1:48,000-scale bedrock compilation mapping in central Pennsylvania
- 1:64,000-scale bedrock mapping of the South Mountain region
- 1:24,000-scale drift thickness and depth to bedrock mapping in northwest Pennsylvania
- 1:50,000-scale compilation mapping of glacial deposits in northeast Pennsylvania
- New 1:24,000-scale bedrock and surficial geologic mapping projects across the state

- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Occasional overnight travel to conferences and meetings is required.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Middletown.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years as a Senior Geoscientist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Possession of an active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
- Three years of professional geology experience, and a bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, geosciences, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or a closely related field that includes 30 college credits in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or a closely related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- You must possess an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
