THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will serve as Chief Counsel's support and counterpart in all aspects of work handled by the legal office. Work primarily concerns Department of Corrections issues and involves document review and preparation, the performance of advanced administrative work, as well as legal research and writing. This involves handling sensitive and confidential matters consistent with the attorney-client privilege, in addition to utilizing Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and e-discovery platforms.

As a Legal Analyst, you will:

  • Create and type drafts of motions, briefs, entry of appearances, and discovery requests
  • Review subpoenas
  • Prepare motions for leave to depose inmates and deposition notices, and ensure that arrangements have been made for court reporters
  • Prepare documentation and exhibits for trial and assist at trial
  • Maintain law library
  • Prepare Excel and Access databases for use in discovery
  • Perform legal research using books and electronic data
  • Perform electronic discovery projects for all sections of the office

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to two days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school; or
  • Three years of professional experience in legal research and analysis, and a bachelor's degree; or
  • Five years of legal research and analysis experience including three years at the professional level, and an associate's degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes two years of professional experience in legal research and analysis.


Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with an e-discovery platform such as Relativity or a cloud storage software

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
