THE POSITION

The Bureau of Driver Licensing is seeking to fill the position of Clerical Assistant 3, a role that requires effective communication skills for both internal and external interactions. This position is pivotal in delivering exceptional customer service related to driver license suspensions, as well as addressing issues associated with the Problem Driver Pointer System (PDPS) and the Commercial Driver License Information System (CDLIS). The Clerical Assistant will handle incoming phone calls from a diverse range of stakeholders, including members of the general public, personnel from driver license centers, and various units within the department. Each call presents an opportunity to resolve pressing concerns and provide clarity on complex licensing matters, making this role essential for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the licensing process.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be responsible for handling incoming phone calls from a diverse range of stakeholders, including the general public, internal customers, and representatives from state and federal agencies. Your primary focus will be to address inquiries concerning driver license suspensions, the Problem Driver Pointer System (PDPS), the Commercial Driver License Information System (CDLIS), and the overall requirements for commercial driver licensing. You will provide essential information by interpreting and explaining the records of sanctioned drivers, guiding customers on the necessary steps to restore their driving privileges, and detailing the procedures for submitting required documentation. Additionally, you will inform customers about the criteria they must meet to demonstrate that they are not listed as drivers on the PDPS, as well as the requirements for obtaining and maintaining a commercial driver license (CDL), including information on potential disqualifications or cancellations.

Furthermore, you will be tasked with analyzing documentation submitted by customers seeking restoration or addressing PDPS cases. This involves accepting and reviewing all relevant paperwork, conducting thorough follow-up research to verify the authenticity of the documentation, and making necessary phone calls to other state or federal agencies as needed. Your role will also include performing data entry for various types of work processed within the unit. You will utilize PENNDOT's mainframe systems to update Pennsylvania driver records by accurately processing forms, statements, and other documents received via mail from customers whose driving privileges have been suspended, revoked, canceled, or disqualified.
