Job Title: Fiber Design Technician - Data Center Focus Location: Hybrid - Based in Tempe, AZ
Employment Type: (Full-Time/Contract) Department: Fiber Design & Construction Compensation: Pay is negotiable based on experience and qualifications Position Summary: We are a fast-growing fiber infrastructure company expanding our footprint across Arizona, and we're looking for a highly skilled Fiber Design Technician with a strong background in fiber splicing-this is a critical requirement for the role. The ideal candidate will also have experience working in data center environments and a desire to grow into a fiber design and engineering position. This is a hybrid role based in Tempe, AZ, with no field work required. Key Responsibilities: Fiber Splicing Expertise (Core Focus) * Lead and support fusion and mechanical fiber splicing in lab or controlled environments. * Analyze and interpret OTDR traces, power meter readings, and other test results to ensure fiber integrity. * Develop and review splice plans, cut sheets, and restoration documentation. * Ensure all splicing work meets or exceeds industry standards for performance and reliability. Data Center Integration & Operations * Support fiber connectivity within data centers, including patch panels, cross-connects, and structured cabling. * Understand data center infrastructure such as meet-me rooms, racks, cable management, and power systems. * Collaborate with data center teams to ensure seamless integration of fiber into core network infrastructure. Fiber Design & Documentation * Assist in designing fiber routes from data centers to enterprise and residential end users. * Create and maintain logical and physical network diagrams using tools like Visio, AutoCAD, and GIS. * Maintain accurate records of fiber inventory, splice points, and circuit documentation. Growth & Collaboration * Work closely with senior engineers and project managers to evolve into a fiber design and engineering role. * Bring a growth mindset and a passion for learning new technologies and design methodologies. * Contribute to internal process improvements and mentor junior team members as needed. Required Qualifications: * 3-7+ years of hands-on experience in fiber splicing (fusion and mechanical). * Strong knowledge of fiber optic testing tools and procedures (OTDR, power meter, etc.). * Familiarity with data center environments and fiber connectivity standards. * Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, splice schematics, and fiber test results. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with GIS, AutoCAD, or Visio is a plus. * Based in or willing to relocate to Tempe, AZ; hybrid work environment.
