Description

The Vice President, General Manager Commercial Segment provides growth, strategic, and portfolio leadership for Medica's Commercial products. The role has profit and loss responsibility for the Commercial segment, including membership, revenue, margin, medical costs, and admin costs. This requires the direct (product) and indirect (matrix) leadership of all internal and external teams working on behalf of the segments and is responsible for prioritization and strong collaboration between teams such as product, marketing, network management, legal, operations, health services, vendors and other key stakeholders external to Medica.

Key Accountabilities:



  • The VP, Commercial Segment reports to the SVP of Product and Segments and oversees Commercial Segment Growth and has full profit and loss responsibility
  • Provides strategic planning, implementation, management and process/cost improvement direction related to Medica's Commercial business segments.
  • Partners closely with the regional sales teams, including the Strategic Account Executives and Client Management, along with Market Operations to ensure the Commercial segment objectives are met.
  • Consults with underwriting and market operations to ensure alignment with the Commercial segment strategies.
  • Establishes appropriate goals, product skill development, and personal development for the Product Strategy and Development team.
  • Understands the competitive landscape and proposes changes to current product mix to maximize membership/profitability.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelors degree required; advanced degree (MA, MBA, MHA) preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of working experience required; a minimum of 5 years of healthcare experience preferred; a minimum of 3-5 years of functional expertise with goal focus on markets preferred


Specific types of experience required:



  • Creating product growth goals, developing, managing and achieving a product strategy, setting appropriate goals for staff, and providing personal development for a product team
  • Changing product mixes to maximize membership/profitability, managing risk and meeting departmental cost structures, and leading the product team to develop and implement a product strategy
  • Proven success in product management, ideally with P&L accountability, understand the complex health care landscape, and be able to actively engage with the marketing team and growth office to drive cross-functional portfolio prioritization required

  • Manages primarily through vice presidents/ senior directors
  • Demonstrates business, political and interpersonal savvy in a matrixed environment
  • Ensures the company maintains high social responsibility wherever it does business
  • Assesses risks to the company and ensures they are monitored and minimized
  • Provides thought leadership, results leadership, people leadership and personal leadership

This position is an Office role, which requires an employee to work from the designated office, Minnetonka MN or Madison WI, on average, 3+ times per week.

The full base pay salary range for this position is $240,000-$360,000. Annual base pay salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and or licensures, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data.

In addition to base compensation, this position is eligible for Medica's Short Term Incentive plan, Long Term Incentive plan and our Supplemental Executive Retirement Plan.
