Job Description

Responsible for supervising and coordinating all phases of screed operations. Includes managing and directing vessel and barge personnel where to screed in order to level and smooth seabed to the desired depths based upon survey information to ensure safe and efficient cargo operations. Responsible for ensuring compliance with governmental and state regulations, safety standards, and company policies.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Supervision



  • Assists in conducting meetings with assigned team members to review daily plans and communicate assignments and information.


  • Interfaces with customers, marine & shoreside employees, vendors, and regulatory officials.
  • Supervises responsibilities and performance of screed operations.



Compliance



  • Maintains current knowledge of all maritime laws.
  • Ensures compliance with company SOP's, regulatory, licensing, and training requirements.
  • Ensures compliance of company safety policies, maintenance, and training programs.
  • Complies with company Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Complies with applicable Federal, State and Local regulations, including, but not limited to: USCG, EPA, ABS, OSHA and ADEC.



Administrative



  • Reviews surveys received on seabed depths and contour for compliance and analyze the data.
  • Identify areas requiring screeding as well as any potential hazards and considerations.
  • Assist with compiling comprehensive survey report to include data collected, analysis and findings.
  • Performs special duties and other work as assigned.
  • Adheres to all company policies.
  • Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.



KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Ability to interpret, administer and ensure compliance with government regulations related to safety, work rules, emergency response, screed operations.
  • Must possess strong written and oral communicative skills to direct vessel and barge personnel on screed operations.
  • Should have good interpersonal skills to work well with customers, peers, superiors, subordinates, competitors, and the general public. Should also have a strong appreciation for and be sensitive to the needs of our customers recognizing that the Company is a specialty service provider.


  • Must be able to read, speak, and understand English over the telephone and/or radio.


  • Must be a team player but at the same time be willing to exercise authority when required.
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Must be flexible and receptive to change. Must have ability to deviate from established routines on short notice and be able to recognize the level of importance of new assignments.
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks accordingly to meet deadlines without sacrificing operational quality. Must be able to delegate effectively. Must be accurate in completion of assignments.


  • Must be able to work independently and without direct supervision.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, heat, wind, heavy seas, etc.)
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of schedules and hours.
  • Able to work weekends, holidays, and at night. Willing to take call outs.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



  • Prior screed experience required.
  • Valid state driver's license.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is generally performed in the field, in all weather conditions and is often accomplished in high noise areas. Mainly outdoors, in, on or about seagoing vessels in dynamic, wet, noisy, and odorous conditions. Must be able to work for extended periods of time in poorly ventilated confined spaces wearing safety equipment such as, hard hat, gloves, boots, rain gear, and respirators for protection from harmful dust and fumes. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement.

PHYSICAL/ MENTAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit/stand; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Ability to move between buildings, ascend/descend stairs and go outdoors in all kinds of weather. Also, for vessel and site visits, one needs the ability to climb ladders and over bulwarks. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The workday usually has a high number of interruptions and priority changes necessitating the need to remain flexible and focused in order to accomplish tasks.
