A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) is a national scientific services firm supporting maritime activities requiring certification of compliance with environmental regulations as well as collecting data for use by Federal, State, Municipal, and other government agencies along the US coastline. AIS is looking for a Project Manager to support the Bureau of Land Managements (BLM) Nevada Terrestrial Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring (AIM) Surveys.

Primary Function:

The Project Manager will serve as the operational and logistical lead for the Nevada Terrestrial Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring (AIM) project under the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). This individual will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of field-based data collection efforts, ensuring the successful implementation of AIM protocols across multiple BLM districts. Acting as the primary point of contact between AIS and BLM personnel, including State Office Monitoring Coordinators and Field Office Leads, the Project Manager will oversee the hiring, training, deployment, and supervision of field crews collecting ecological and soil data in remote and often rugged terrain. In addition to coordinating field logistics, the Project Manager will be responsible for preparing hitch plans, ensuring equipment readiness, monitoring safety compliance, tracking progress against project timelines, and performing rigorous quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on incoming data using Survey123 and other GIS tools. This role requires a strong understanding of AIM protocols, practical experience in ecological fieldwork, and the ability to lead dispersed teams while maintaining high standards of data integrity, safety, and communication throughout the field season.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and lead post-award kickoff and pre-season planning meetings with BLM State and Field Office leads.
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard qualified field crew members in alignment with project schedules.
  • Plan and manage logistics for field operations, including hitch planning, equipment setup, and travel coordination.
  • Supervise and support multiple field crews conducting data collection across Nevada's diverse and remote landscapes.
  • Ensure full adherence to AIM protocols and data quality standards, including plot monumentation, supplemental methods, and safety procedures.
  • Conduct regular crew check-ins, safety reviews, and performance evaluations to maintain operational continuity.
  • Serve as primary liaison between AIS and BLM personnel for field coordination, land access, and sampling strategy updates.
  • Manage and oversee data submission via Survey123 and ensure timely data synchronization with the BLM enterprise database.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of field-collected data, including error checking and calibration reviews in compliance with the AIM Data Management Protocol.
  • Resolve field issues including sample point rejection, equipment failure, and unforeseen access or weather-related constraints.
  • Maintain detailed records of project progress and support reporting for milestone-based deliverables and invoicing.
  • Facilitate ongoing crew training and calibration throughout the field season, including any required supplemental training.
  • Ensure field crews comply with BLM safety requirements and federal travel regulations.
  • Coordinate with BLM and private landowners to secure necessary access permissions for data collection.

Compensation: Candidates will be paid an hourly rate to be negotiated, and total compensation will vary depending on candidates' depth of experience. This is a full-time position. AIS benefits package includes health and dental insurance, vacation, sick and holiday benefits.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, environmental science, natural resources, or related field.
  • Minimum two years' experience managing complex field projects and crews.
  • Strong familiarity with AIM protocols and terrestrial data collection methodologies.
  • Ability to lead field operations in remote environments.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with BLM AIM protocols in Nevada ecosystems.
  • Proficiency with Survey123 and ArcGIS Online.
  • Experience leading multi-crew, multi-site environmental projects.

Travel:

  • Reimbursed at an hourly rate along with compensation for miles accrued on a personal vehicle as well as per diem at the specified Government rate.
