Position Summary: The Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Manager is a Respiratory Care Practitioner with advanced expertise in ECMO and Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (ECPR). This clinician works in collaboration with the ECMO Medical Director and the Senior Director, Respiratory Care & ECMO, to oversee the development, implementation, operations, and evaluation of the Boston Children's Hospital ECMO Program. The ECMO Manager is responsible for organizing the multidisciplinary systems and services necessary to support ECMO delivery. Programmatic responsibilities include leading quality initiatives, curriculum and training development, staff recruitment and development, and administrative oversight of national databases including reporting to the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO). The ECMO Manager is recognized as a technical expert in the field of Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) and plays a central role in managing a highly complex patient population. The position assumes day-to-day responsibility for ECMO-related performance improvement activities and serves as a key collaborator with clinical teams, perfusion, and ECMO specialists to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Additionally, the ECMO Manager (or designee) participates in the triage of potential ECMO cases as part of the ECMO Clinical Governance Committee. Key Responsibilities: Leads the strategic planning, development, and daily operations of the ECMO Program in collaboration with clinical and administrative leadership. Oversees ECMO quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, and maintenance of Boston Children's ECMO Center of Excellence designation. Provides expert clinical guidance and serves as a consultant for ECMO-related patient care across multidisciplinary teams. Develops and manages orientation, training, and continuing education programs to ensure staff competency and program excellence. Supports recruitment, hiring, and professional development of ECMO staff, fostering a culture of clinical and leadership growth. Represents the ECMO Program on hospital-wide committees and manages program documentation, data reporting, and outcomes tracking. Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated technical and leadership expertise in ECMO/ECPR clinical practices. Experience leading and supporting multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Proven success implementing quality and performance improvement initiatives. Education: Required: Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy Preferred: Master's Degree in a related field such as Health Sciences, Healthcare Management, or Healthcare Administration Experience: Required: Minimum of 5 years of experience as an ECMO Specialist Preferred: 7 or more years of experience in ECMO within a pediatric or academic medical center Licensure/Certification: Required: Current licensure and registration as a Respiratory Therapist by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Public Health Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Neonatal-Pediatric Specialist (NPS) - NBRC Preferred: Current ELSO E-NPEC Credential Boston Children's Hospital requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and Flu, (unless you are eligible for a medical or religious exemption).
