DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks across various nursery operations. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the production of wood shop items and picnic tables, as well as managing the placement and removal of sunshades and snow fences on nursery beds. Additionally, you will be involved in sowing and covering seeds in the nursery seedbeds and lifting tree seedlings during the spring season. Maintenance of the nursery property will require you to operate lawn mowers and weed eaters, while you will also use backpack sprayers to apply insecticides and herbicides under the supervision of a licensed applicator. Furthermore, you will support skilled workers in building and grounds maintenance, which may involve light electrical and plumbing tasks.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2025 until November 2025 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2026.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position may require overtime and travel.
  • Weekends, holidays, and all shifts as needed at 37.5 hours per week
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
