Senior Civil Engineer (Transportation)

The Department of Transportation's Bureau of Bridge, Structural Materials Division is seeking a talented Senior Civil Engineer with expertise in pre-cast and pre-pressed concrete fabrication. In this position, you will be responsible for assessing the quality of precast, prestressed, and reinforced concrete pipes at Bulletin 15 approved fabrication facilities, ensuring that these products meet customer standards. You will apply engineering principles to make informed decisions regarding work assignments. As a structural concrete engineer, your role includes upholding workmanship standards and adhering to contract requirements, special provisions, and relevant specifications for both simple and complex civil engineering structures within the Commonwealth and beyond. Additionally, you will assist in the prequalification process for new Bulletin 15 precast and prestressed concrete fabricators, reviewing shop practices such as tensioning, rebar fabrication, form setup, concrete mixing, placement, vibration, finishing, and curing. You will also evaluate and approve or disapprove Quality Control plans and mix designs, while providing support to Districts in addressing fabrication and repair issues.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
• Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
• Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Special Requirement:

• This position requires possession of a valid Class C driver's license.

Other Requirements:

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
