Director, Cloud Operations & Infrastructure

As the Director, Cloud Operations & Infrastructure on the Echo Global Logistics team, you will drive cloud strategy across the organization partnering with Architecture, Engineering, Product, and business stakeholder teams to build, support, and maintain secure, cost-optimized, high-performing, and resilient cloud architectures. You will also manage, maintain, and support Echo's on-prem datacenters including all the compute, storage, networking, and security aspects of ensuring service uptime, resiliency, and business continuity. You will lead a cross functional team of cloud, system, and network engineers providing hands-on leadership, support, and guidance. This role will also champion the mindset and operational standards required for cloud-native application support-elevating operational ownership across engineering while ensuring platform stability, visibility, and cost-efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Defines and drives the AWS cloud operating model in partnership with Engineering-ensuring the cloud environment is a reliable, secure, observable, and cost-conscious foundation for product teams to build upon
  • Owns the cloud operations platform experience-as a service consumed by product engineering teams and establishes guardrails, observability frameworks, and SLO alignment
  • Acts as the operational excellence champion who enables engineering's "You Build It You Own It" philosophy through shared accountability frameworks
  • Guides a cultural transformation from "ticket-based support" to shared accountability and enablement
  • Develops & enhances Terraform cloud modules in partnership with Architecture for enterprise adoption
  • Oversees the cloud budget & FinOps practice, optimizing costs, and achieving efficiency in resource utilization
  • Closely partners with Architecture and Engineering to support architectural cloud patterns, designs, and technologies. Builds self-service capabilities that engineering teams can leverage while maintaining appropriate governance and cost controls
  • Owns the operational maturity of the AWS platform, ensuring end-to-end reliability, observability, cost controls, and standardized guardrails to support Engineering in delivering resilient services
  • Establishes clear shared responsibility models between Cloud Operations and Engineering that outline-where engineering teams own their services end-to-end, where centralized cloud operations provides platforms and capabilities, & how observability, reliability, and incident management responsibilities are shared
  • Deploys objectives and strategies to continuously improve resiliency, redundancy and security of cloud products and services through DevOps practices and site reliability engineering
  • Manages and maintains existing on-prem datacenter assets including but not limited to compute, storage, networking and security aspects in support of business goals and objectives
  • Leads the cultural shift and change management initiatives to transition from traditional data center support toward building & embracing cloud-native practices that enhance business value and return on investment

Position Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience with cloud architecture design, including networking, storage, compute, and security best practices
  • 10+ years of experience working with a variety of cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, Private-Cloud Architecture) and their services
  • 10+ years of experience utilizing cloud migration strategies like "lift and shift", re-platforming, and re-factoring
  • 7+ years' experience building & leading cloud teams, serving as a hands-on leader & mentor
  • Ability to establish OKRs and KPIs that align cloud operational excellence with business metrics and outcomes
  • Deep understanding of Infrastructure and Platform Automation technology products such as Terraform, Puppet, Ansible, and Chef technologies
  • Ability to set a strategic vision for cloud transformations, building roadmaps, outlining strategic initiatives, and driving adoption
  • Experience implementing IaaS, PaaS and SaaS workloads in public, private and hybrid cloud deployment models
  • Extensive experience working with cloud native hosting solutions such as Containers, Docker, Infrastructure as Code and technologies from AWS
  • Exposure to on-prem datacenter technologies surrounding compute, storage, networking, security, and operational aspects
  • Collaborative and highly adaptable working style; strong communication skills; polish and poise when presenting and experience working within a C-Suite environment

Certifications:

  • Certified as an AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate required
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional a plus

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems preferred or equivalent experience.
  • MBA or a graduate-level degree in a relevant field is a plus

Compensation

$148,600.00-218,300.00 per year This role is eligible for a bonus that is based on a combination of personal and business performance.
