The Value You'll Bring:

As the Vice President of Procurement, you will be at the forefront of shaping and executing innovative sourcing strategies that not only reduce costs but also ensure quality and reliability across our supply chain. You'll play a key leadership role-building strategic supplier relationships, negotiating impactful deals, and setting the standard for service excellence.

What You'll Do:

  • Shape Strategic Procurement Programs: Lead end-to-end development of procurement, purchasing, contracting, negotiations, and vendor selection-including creating robust frameworks for supplier evaluation, engagement, and RFP execution.

  • Build and Elevate the Team: Grow and guide a high-performing procurement team by strengthening processes, procedures, and capabilities.

  • Deliver Meaningful Cost Savings: Drive annual savings targets by owning and executing cost reduction strategies and high-impact value initiatives.

  • Strengthen Vendor Partnerships: Deepen relationships within our vendor community to unlock better pricing, enhanced service levels, and stronger collaboration.

  • Drive Supplier Accountability: Design, implement, and monitor key supplier KPIs to ensure performance and alignment with business goals.

  • Lead Strategic Sourcing & Negotiations: Conduct spend analyses, assess supply markets, identify sourcing levers, lead RFPs, and negotiate high-value supplier contracts.

  • Champion Continuous Improvement: Continuously improve supplier performance, internal adoption, and technology integration across procurement systems.

  • Collaborate Across the Business: Build strong relationships with business leaders to understand needs and strategically align vendor partnerships across departments.

What We're Seeking:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 15+ years' relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience, required.

  • Minimum of 10+ years' experience in a position of leadership to include team development and management, required.

  • SAP experience is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to demonstrate proven results with contract reading, writing and negotiation.

  • Experience with "Strategic Sourcing Techniques" such as managing value stream, lean concepts, contractual alternatives, and buying theories.

  • Strong project management skills in support of cross functional team activities.

  • Strong leadership and management skills that align with the Smithfield culture. Specific skills include facilitating change, driving operational excellence, and striving for continuous improvement.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with peers and executive leadership.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite: Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

  • Ability to work through complex, unstructured problems.

  • May travel up to 25% of the time to manufacturing plants and vendor locations.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership and guidance to the Procurement team.

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
