To be prepared for these changes, it is imperative that the electrical transmission and distribution systems are planned accordingly. Evergy is seeking a self-motivated individual to help its transmission and distribution planning (transmission planning, T&D planning) organization perform engineering studies and develop systems to address the multitude of changes taking place with how energy is produced and used. Duties and Responsibilities: * Performing steady state, short circuit, and dynamic analysis to maintain compliance with relevant NERC Standards (PSSE, PowerWorld, ASPEN, etc.) * Learning and using electro-magnetic transient (EMT) software (PSCAD) and using it to evaluate Evergy's transmission system. * Analyzing the reliability impact of interconnecting renewables and HVDC in and around the Evergy footprint. * Analyzing the impact of interconnecting large electrical end-use customers. * Analyzing end-use customer load composition and applying it to transmission studies. * Assisting long-term transmission planning with unique studies. * Assisting long-term distribution planning with unique studies. * Developing internal processes or procedures to assist with analysis of Evergy's transmission or distribution system(s). * Developing automation tools (Python, VBA, etc.) to enhance Evergy's assessment capability.
Education and Experience Requirements: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, nuclear engineering, systems engineering, or mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited university is required. Candidates must have at least two years of experience in the power industry, with a preference for those who also have a minimum of two years of power system planning experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel at an intermediate level is essential, along with hands-on experience using power system simulation software such as PSSE, PowerWorld, ETAP, Synergi Electric, or CYME. While not mandatory, holding a Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required: * Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to independently solve complex engineering problems. * Ability to communicate complex engineering calculations and analysis to engineers and non-engineers across the organization. * Independently research and make recommendations on how to comply with new industry standards and regulatory orders. * Ability to work with other engineers and non-engineers across the organization to develop system plans. * Display initiative and self-reliance with the ability to self-prioritize multiple projects and strict deadlines while maintaining high-quality performance. * Maintain effective internal controls by developing and following procedures, retaining evidence for audits, and maintaining supporting documentation for all aspects of responsibilities.
