SUMMARY
The Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) is a United States Air Force global organization that discovers, shapes and champions basic science that profoundly impacts the future Air and Space Force. AFOSR directs the Air Force's investments in basic research within government, university, and industry laboratories, and ensures the transition of those research results. Agile Defense provides IT operations, cyber security, business systems development, and internal communications support for AFOSR HQ. in Arlington Va.
AFOSR requires internal communications support to capture, write, edit, and publish information to support the mission of the organization. The contractor will be assigned to write concise, high-level summaries of scientific research progress and accomplishments to highlight the benefits to the Air Force and the fighter. The target audience of these writings are senior Air Force Research officials and internal AFOSR leaders and stakeholders. Other duties will include internal newsletter articles, scientist profile articles, and capturing mission critical summaries from leadership. The audience for the writing will be for both technical and non-technical backgrounds, with an emphasis on efficiency, brevity, and clarity.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Summarize monthly scientific research summaries into the concise, clear bulleted summaries for the AFOSR Monthly Activity Report, that goes to Air Force Research Lab leadership that focus on the benefits of the research to the war fighter.
* Create written products for AFOSR departments as assigned, often translating scientific concepts to easier-to-consume write-ups primarily for non-scientific readers.
* Created "products" will include a broad array of technical writing scientific success stories to include but not be limited to, transition reports, technology impact reports, partnerships, collaboration meetings, after-action event reports, interview summaries of principal investigators and subject matter experts, integrated analytical partnership reports, partnership highlight reports, talking points, white papers, strategic outreach briefings & materials and an internal monthly newsletters
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Certifications
* No professional certification will be required
Education, Background, and Years of Experience
* Associates degree or higher in English, Journalism, Communications, or related discipline.
* 1+ years' experience in a profession writing position such as Technical or Content Writer, Editor, Journalist, etc.
* Strong writing skills: Ability to communicate complex research findings in a clear and engaging manner.
* Research proficiency: Capability to understand and summarize diverse topics without requiring advanced technical expertise.
* Excellent organizational skills: Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.
* Adaptability: Willingness to learn and write about various subjects, adjusting writing style as needed.
* Attention to detail: Ensure accuracy and consistency in written content, adhering to agency guidelines.
* Strong communication skills: Collaborate effectively with researchers, presenting information in a comprehensible way.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe document creation/editing products, diagramming tools (Visio), and basic content management systems.
* Knowledge and ability to write or synthesis other writings in the "Smart Brevity" style, to capture information in the most impactful way in a structure/form that is the easiest to read.
Preferred Skills
* Interest and experience in writing about basic scientific topics and research
* Comfortable working and collaborating with people at all levels of the organization, especially scientists and researchers.
* We will ask for writing samples and assign a small writing assignment to be provided before a hire decision is made.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions
* The employee will generally sit at a computer during the business day which therefore makes the work sedentary in nature. No significant lifting is expected.
Strength Demands
* Light - 20 lbs. Maximum lifting with frequent lift/carry up to 10 lbs. A job is light if less lifting is involved but significant walking/standing is done or if done mostly sitting but requires push/pull on arm or leg controls.
