Shive-Hattery's Food + Pharmaceutical (F+P) Studio Leader will report to the F+P Market Leader and are an important and direct link to our people. In this role, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, mentorship, and guidance for the development of our people and our business. This position will drive operational excellence in design, foster employee development, align with market goals, and contribute to the overall success of your market and the firm. The range and balance of the role's leadership, management, and design work will vary based upon the size of the studio and the area of expertise. The group currently has members in Valparaiso, Cedar Rapids, and Lincoln offices. It will be important for the studio leader to establish relationships with our current group members to facilitate effective communication. As group members are added in other Shive-Hattery locations, the studio leader will be responsible for fostering relationships which allow new members to integrate successful into Shive-Hattery and the studio positions.
Requirements
- Excellent interpersonal communications skills with the ability to build positive and impactful working relationships at all levels of the organization
- Experience building, leading, and coaching a team of design professionals, designers, and administrative staff
- Ability to lead a team in the support of profitable growth through strategic initiatives (both internal and external) and business development efforts
- Professional designation in architecture. Licensure preferred.
- Ability to travel when necessary
- The Studio Leader position is expected to work in the office
Leadership:
- Establish and communicate clear expectations for the group, living our values, and promoting our guiding principle
- Coach and mentor each member, nurturing their growth and development goals
- Promote and execute our Employee Led Goal setting program
- Participate in market and studio leader meetings
- Contribute new ideas and initiatives to drive the success of our markets, business unit and company's objectives, and goals
- Track progress of change initiatives and implement continuous improvement measures
Workforce Effectiveness:
- Collaborate with Project Managers and leaders to assign work to group members and optimize work-sharing opportunities for the development of our staff, as well as profitability
- Monitor work assignments to align with individual career goals and provide support on projects
- Establish and execute quality assurances for projects
- Encourage involvement in Communities of Practice and technical organizations
- Facilitate professional and technical development opportunities for group members
Employee Engagement and Career Development:
- Conduct regular coaching sessions with each group member to set goals, review progress, and create personal development plans
- Recommend training opportunities and teach group members to foster knowledge sharing
- Seek feedback on performance from Project Managers and leaders
- Collaborate with the Market Leader to establish and monitor Performance Development Plans
- Resolve conflicts and use VantagePoint planning for workload assessment
- Provide workload reports to the Market Leader and sector management team
- Ensure adherence to policies and procedures
Operations and Financial Management:
- Monitor group activities to meet utilization goals and project budgets
- Assist Project Managers with project issues, including personnel, communications, and budgets
- Approve timesheets, expenses, vacation requests, and make staffing recommendations
- Participate in resume reviewing, interviewing, and selection of new staff
- Recommend chargeability and salary adjustments
- Participate in salary discussions with group members and new employee orientation
Business Development:
- Identify new clients and opportunities to pursue utilizing a go-no go process for ideal client and project selection
- Win repeat work from existing clients
- Work with Market Leader and Client Sponsors to maintain workload and growth
- Foster business development skills among group members and encourage community involvement
- Seek new business opportunities and monitor client feedback surveys
- Support cross-sector business development activities
