Position Summary

The Director of Benefits is responsible for the strategic design, implementation, communication, compliance, and administration of the organization's employee benefits programs. These programs may include health, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, wellness initiatives, retirement plans, and other ancillary benefits. This role ensures that all benefit offerings align with the company's goals, support employee well-being, are competitive in the market, and contribute to elevating the overall employee experience.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Program Design

  • Develop and execute the overall benefits strategy, as part of the Total Rewards Strategy, to attract and retain talent and ensure a comprehensive strategy for Apogee. Evaluate market trends, benchmark data, and employee needs to recommend plan design improvements.

  • Lead benefits program design, offering selection, and rate setting.

  • Lead the selection, management, and performance of benefits vendors and brokers.

  • Partner closely with VP, HR Strategy & Ops/Total Rewards along with Executive Compensation and Compensation colleagues on developing a comprehensive total rewards strategy.

Benefits Administration and Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of all benefit programs, including annual open enrollment and ensure timely support and responses for escalated inquiries

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of enrollments, changes, and terminations.

  • Partner with payroll, finance, legal, and HR teams to ensure integration and accuracy.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure programs comply with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA).

  • Prepare and file required compliance documents such as 5500s, plan documents, and audits.

  • Maintain strong internal controls and data integrity.

Employee Communication & Support

  • Develop effective employee communication, engagement, and education strategies regarding benefits offerings.

  • Manage escalated employee concerns and provide expert-level guidance and support.

  • Conduct regular training and webinars for HR and management teams.

Benefits Leadership & Vendor Management

  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure performance, service quality, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Negotiate renewals, RFPs and ensure favorable contract terms to ensure optimized services and costs.

  • Monitor plan performance and escalate issues as needed.

Education and Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, finance, business administration, or a related field (Master's degree or CEBS preferred).

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in employee benefits, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.

  • In-depth knowledge of employee benefits laws and regulations

  • Strong project management, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Experience with HR systems and benefits administration platforms (e.g., Workday, ADP, Oracle)

  • Strategic thinking with the ability to influence senior leadership

  • Exceptional interpersonal and vendor negotiation skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priories in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong focus on inclusion and employee well-being

Pay Range

$150,000-$190,000
