Basic Function and Responsibilities: The University of Michigan Health Regional Manager of Clinical Excellence will have oversight for supporting the University of Michigan Health Partners (UMHP) and the UM Health Regional Network, inclusive of both employed and independent providers. This leadership role will work closely with the UM Health Population Health team, the President of UMHP, and the Clinically Integrated Network (CIN) to develop, implement, and evaluate quality performance across the region, utilizing clinical, claims, and regulatory metrics. In addition, this position will have oversight for the local quality programs supporting primary care and specialty practices, as the network continues to evaluate key value-based agreements. Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities:
- Facilitates UM Health Regional Network quality improvement initiatives; directs the day-to-day execution of the strategies necessary to improve the quality outcomes and results of both UM Health Partners and the UM Health CIN.
- Responsible for maintaining the UM Health Partners & UM Health CIN Quality & Safety program, including data collection, aggregating and analyzing data, maintaining policies and procedures, as well as reporting to administrators.
- Implements and maintains real-time, EMR-based performance dashboards, carefully validating clinical metrics across all specialties.
- Provides leadership for the Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI) boards, specifically the quality components and the clinical education associated.
- Actively participates in monitoring quality and payer-based quality programs, assisting with practice-level support around performance improvement, highlighting key areas of opportunity and establishing corrective action plans if needed.
- Ensures a network-level quality improvement strategy, to deliver top quartile results.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for UMHP and UM Health CIN Quality Program, including education, training, as well as addressing provider-related questions, concerns, and suggestions.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements including The Joint Commission (TJC) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), confirming appropriate policies and procedures are in place.
- Has a working knowledge of the value-based care strategy and aligns the quality programs to capture payer initiatives including patient experience, accurate risk capture, care management outreach, etc.
- Presents to UM Health CIN Boards and Advisory Committees and to explain current performance, recommended updates, and future strategies.
- Work within the UM Health CIN committee structure to advance efforts to standardize care among primary care physicians and specialists through the development of quality measures and benchmarks.

* Certified Professional Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred |
Work Experience |
* At least five (5) years of experience in healthcare quality improvement or a related field. * At least three (3) years of leadership experience. * RN preferred |
Education |
* Bachelor's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, public health or a related field * Master's degree in healthcare or closely related field preferred |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills. * Ability to work collaboratively across the UM Health Region, engaging both clinical and administrative staff in quality-related initiatives. * Excellent written/verbal communication, with extensive experience in conveying key points in a programmatic presentation. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills to include the ability to negotiate, resolve conflicts, and build teams. * Ability to function independently and work through multiple simultaneous projects at once. * Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct, lead, and build consensus among diverse groups. * Demonstrated flexibility, with the ability to operate in a high-pressure environment. * Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills. * Lean process improvement experience preferred * Understanding of Clinical Integration concepts preferred |
