Experience must include:



  • Demonstrated aptitude with modern programming languages.
  • Familiarity with ASME code.
  • SolidWorks, MathCAD, Python, and ANSYS.
  • Plant operation experience.
  • Organizational, time management and project management skills.
  • Achieving results through project technical leader assignments.
  • Plan, direct, complete highly complex tasks within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Mechanical design and analysis principles and applying those principles in design and analysis.
  • Mechanics of materials, solid mechanics, vibration (particularly flow-induced vibration and fretting wear), dynamics systems and finite element analysis.
  • Finite element analysis (e.g., ANSYS) to solve both linear and non-linear problems (static and dynamic).
  • Knowledge of fluid-structure interaction, statistics, or fracture mechanics.

As a Fuel Mechanical Analysis Engineer in Lynchburg, VA, you will be part of the proven team in the Fuel Design Business Line in the Fuel Business Unit. Job Duties will include:



  • Perform mechanical and structural analysis on fuel assemblies and components, using engineering theories, analytical tools and test data to evaluate Framatome's fuel assemblies' static and dynamic behaviors under different operating and accidental conditions of the nuclear plant.
  • Develop methods and computer codes necessary to support the development and validation of fuel mechanical performance.
  • Perform and document calculations to support fuel licensing and development activities.
  • Establish mechanical test requirements and evaluate test data.
  • Develop and benchmark fuel assembly models with test data and perform seismic/LOCA (dynamic) or normal operating analyses.
  • Provide mechanical support for structural design and manufacturing issues. Under minimum immediate supervision, perform engineering tasks having varied levels of complexity.
  • Complete work packages on time and within budget. These work packages consist mainly of engineering technical documents established in order to justify the mechanical integrity of nuclear fuel assemblies at the demand of our customers.
  • Define project outline, define major milestones and deadlines, establish an elaborate planning schedule with estimated resources and budget.
  • Follow up with project progress and develop mitigation plans when faced with obstacles.
  • Organize and lead weekly follow-up meetings with project team to address and respond to client concerns and questions.
  • Identify input data needed to carry out analyses. Ensure the coherence and validity of input data to be used. Alert the client in the event of incoherencies.

Your Total Rewards Package

The range of base salary for the position is between $101,109 - $113,001.18 per year, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
