POSITION DESCRIPTION

Armorer is responsible for the overall operation of the arms room which includes issuing and receiving weapons, ammunition and sensitive items for incoming and outgoing guard shifts, conducting 100% inventories, conducting weapons maintenance inspections and completing and filing all required reports and forms. This position will be hybrid position and will require frequent travel to Upper Marlboro, MD as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversees, maintains and services all weapons held by ACADEMI and other Company owned/operated under the Constellis umbrella of security service providers. Weapons are defined as those firearms used for operational, training and instructional purposes.



  • Oversees overall armory operations at the ACADEMI Training Center located in Upper Marlboro, MD
  • Responsible for the inspection, periodic maintenance and repairing of all firearms located at the Upper Marlboro, MD training academy facility
  • Acts as "Responsible Party", (RP), of record on the company FFL assigned to the training academy
  • Responsible for ensuring 100% compliance with all federal, state and local laws related to the transfer, storage, receiving and disposing of firearms at the training academy and security contract sites in the National Capital Region (NCR)
  • Orders and maintains an accurate "on-hand" parts inventory to ensure repairs can be made in a timely manner and all firearms remain ready for service
  • Uses technical manuals and bulletins in performing inspections, maintenance checks or troubleshooting
  • Installs and maintains ancillary technical equipment on weapons to include slings, swivels, sidesaddles, flashlights and/or lasers, as necessary
  • Ensures compliance with the signing in/out of firearms by training staff, reporting of "out of service" firearms and all other policies related to armory operations
  • Oversees accounting of, and inventory for all weapons assigned at the Upper Marlboro, MD training academy
  • Coordinates with the individual project managers, quarterly firearm inventory reporting of all NCR contract sites
  • Responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing of firearms located at all other NCR sites
  • Conducts annual armory inspections at all NCR contract sites; inspections include, but are not limited to, inspection of the armory area, clearing barrels, weapon storage facilities, pistols and magazines, revolvers and speed loaders, and ammunition; inspections include visual inspection for cleanliness and function testing of every gun as well as the performing of any repairs as may be needed
  • Inspects and test-fires, for function, reliability and accuracy, repaired firearms as necessary and all new firearms prior to being placed into service
  • Provides subject matter expertise, recommendations and advice relative to firearm and duty equipment acquisition to executive management and business development staff as necessary
  • Responsible for maintaining manufacturer armorer certification for all firearm platforms being utilized at the training academy and on NCR contracts
  • Generate and forward annual site inspection reports to management staff
  • Document and maintain accurate records related to repairs made on all company owned firearms
  • Facilitate annual rotations of duty ammunition to/from NCR contract sites ensuring ammunition meets all industry and SOW stipulated performance requirements
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate updating, as necessary, of company firearm assets in company specific asset management/tracking databases
  • Documents and maintains accurate Acquisition & Disposition records related to the transfer of all company firearms per ATF regulations
  • Write, modify and/or update policy, as necessary, relative to safe weapons handling, storage, repair and/or transportation of weapons Specific to NCR
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies related to firearms used on contract sites within DC, MD and VA. This includes but is not limited to the registering of firearms as necessary, maintaining of company records and liaising on behalf of the corporations' security companies with regulatory officials
  • Transports weapons and other related equipment to/from the training facility in Upper Marlboro, MD and the training facility in Moyock, NC as necessary
  • Works and coordinates closely with Operations Management staff during contract transitioning activities. Assists with the acquisition, transfer to and/or removal of firearms, ammo, safes, clearing barrels and other firearm related items to/from contract sites
  • Must be willing to operate Company vehicle
  • Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Must be US Citizen
  • High School Diploma required
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and a clear driving record for the last 5 years
  • Must be at least 21 years old with no legal disqualifiers to possess firearms
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience required working in any of the following occupations:

    • Full-time Law Enforcement Firearm Instructor with armorer certifications
    • US Military with an MOS as an Armorer
    • Graduate from an accredited gunsmithing college or trade school


  • Ability to use hand, electric and other small arms related tools and equipment required
  • Minimum five years progressively responsible supervisory experience preferred
  • A solid record of firearm safety practices required
  • Sound knowledge and foundation of the shooting fundamentals with above average shooting skills required (must be able to shoot 90% or better on an ICE course of fire preferred)
  • Previous law enforcement and/or military experience as a firearm instructor preferred
  • Previous experience as a competitive shooter preferred
  • Current armorer certifications for the Glock pistol and Remington 870 shotgun required
  • Current armorer certifications for the S&W M&P pistol, S&W revolver, Mossberg 500/590 shotgun and M16/AR15 rifle platform desired
  • Strong computer and typing skills, to include proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Outlook, required
  • Strong communication, customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with training staff, outside vendors and other industry professionals required
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment required

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is based in a busy training environment and subject to frequent interruptions. Work outside and in inclement weather conditions may be required, including heat, cold and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Must wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company safety standards. Normal work hours are Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, however some extended or weekend hours may be required, and work schedule will vary. Travel to domestic locations also required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 50 lbs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching, and bending throughout the workday. Requires constant use of hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
