As an integral member of the Radiology department that assists both internal and external customers including patients, technologists, radiologist, nurses and physicians. Performs a variety of duties both clerical and non-technical. This includes positioning, lifting, transferring patients and other related patient care responsibilities.
Job Description

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Coordinates patient flow prepares patients for exams and reports any necessary information given to them by the patient or care taker to the appropriate resources. Monitors and observes the inpatient holding area to ensure that patients' needs are attended to and patient wait times are minimized.
2. Utilizes computer-based systems to verify patient information. Prints out daily schedules and check status of patients' exams/visits to maintain efficiency and ensure prompt care of patients within the department. Answers phone calls and assists in the scheduling of exams.
3. Prepares rooms with proper equipment and supplies and when necessary assists the technologist with preparing a table for procedures, utilizing sterile technique. Assist in the disassembly and cleaning of patient equipment following a procedure.
4. Assists technologist on portable x-ray rounds including C-Arms with positioning equipment and patients as directed.
5. Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to patient's needs and concerns. Assist patients to bathroom or on bed pans as required. May assist patient with getting comfortable.
6. Notifies Patient Transport that patient is ready for pickup. Monitors Patient Transport system to avoid patient delay. Follows-up with Patient Transport when delays occur. Assists or independently transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher when patient's condition warrants it or if there are delays in the transport system.
7. Confirms patients scheduled appointments and provides them with information regarding the time of their exam, the prep to follow, campus location and registration process.
8. Monitors and orders supplies to maintain par levels. Perform secondary erasure of all CR cassettes when necessary and cassette cleaning on a regular basis.

6. Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
7. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Preferred:
1. High school education with additional specialized courses including medical terminology, computer training and medical assisting are preferred but not required.

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Knowledge of basic office and patient care procedures, as well as medical terminology and communication skills acquired through 3 months of related experience is required.
2. Ability to utilize personal computers and data terminals to record, verify, and retrieve standard information is required.
3. BLS certification is required.
4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required in order to build relationships that support collaborative work within the department and across the organization and provide exceptional service to patients.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work is considered medium. Position requires work indoors in a patient care environment.
