What You'll Do

As a Sr. Process Safety Engineer (PSM) you will lead the technical execution of the Process Safety function and provide support across regional network of operations whilst assuring that sites are effectively managing Process Safety risks in accordance with IPLs Global Risk Framework and relevant PSM regulatory requirements. Other duties include:

  • Business Unit Technical Authority for the Process Safety Engineering discipline and associated Process Safety Management practices
  • Leadership of the implementation of Process Safety Risk management initiative and activities, including the Operations Risk Transformation Initiative in FY2025.
  • Facilitate, execute, and support key risk assessment activities (HAZOP, Bowtie, LOPA, ALARP, etc.) within DNA and drive appropriate risk treatment decisions and plans within the sites.
  • Establish technical standards for critical control performance, necessary verification practices, and drive their integration into the business across Dyno Nobel Americas (DNA).
  • Ensure findings from monitoring and reporting activities set the group/regional/site Process Safety Improvement Plan activities that are aligned to the overall IPL Zero Harm strategy;
  • Providing legislative and compliance advice and assurance for DNA (e.g. OSHA PSM and EPA RMP)
  • Leadership and support of the Process Safety Community and stewardship of regional and Global Process Safety Networks;
  • Ensuring the IPL Risk Management process is embedded, and sustained, across all sites, through the development and implementation of standardized and simplified tools, procedures and guidelines, to operationalize Risk Management at all sites within the Business Unit
  • Supporting a core group of professional engineers to provide relevant company standards, assurance, technical support and competency development for the Process Safety discipline to effectively manage high consequence risks across the group.
  • Act as the primary interface with other disciplines and experts across areas of commonality including Mechanical Integrity, Functional Safety and key deliverables within capital projects.
  • Providing technical support with the continuous improvement of the Process Safety elements of the IPL Global HSEC Management System (e.g. Emergency Management, Management of Change, etc.) and applicable PSM regulations

What We're Looking For:

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering required.
  • Post graduate vocational training in Process Safety.
  • Post graduate vocational training in hazard studies/risk assessment - HAZOP/HAZID/LOPA
  • 10+ years Process Safety experience in a complex manufacturing environment in Chemicals or similar industry.
  • Good knowledge of industry best practice with regards to Process Safety Management Systems from the Centre for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) and/or the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).
  • Good knowledge of Risk Management, including the application of ISO 31000.
  • Must be willing to undergo and pass an ATF background check as required to be a possessor of explosives.
