This position will be primarily responsible for the recording, reporting, and reconciliation of amounts due to the UI Hospital from other hospitals and the College of Medicine related to graduate medical education interns and residents training activity conducted outside the UI hospital as well as other educational, training, and research activities funded by other than the UI Hospital. Additional responsibilities may include the preparation and review of supporting schedules used to complete the hospital's annual Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross and other third party cost reports and the annual State Disproportionate Share survey. This position will also support external audits and assists in short-term and long-term planning of activities and systems for the Hospital Finance Department and Health Systems.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To prepare and maintain subsidiary ledgers related to accounting for non-hospital rotations and training experiences for interns and residents from the hospital's Graduate Medical Education program.
  • Review existing operating procedures for reimbursement. Make recommendations for the development, implementation and modification of ongoing procedures to maximize efficiency and reimbursement.
  • Develop financial and statistical reporting systems to comply with reimbursement requirements.
  • Act as Coordinator for audits conducted by third party payers. Examine and report impact of audit adjustments to management.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications Required:


    1. Any one or combination totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the categories below:

    A. A Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, business administration, management, or finance.

    B. Progressively more responsible work experience that provided a knowledge of generally accepted principles, theories, and practices of healthcare/medical billing.

    2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional experience in third-party reimbursement for health care facilities (such as an accountant or auditor).

    3. Three (3) years (36 months) of additional work experience comparable to that of a Health Care Reimbursement Analyst II or comparable work in healthcare reimbursement.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or other accounting or finance professional certification preferred.
    • Three (3) years financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, business, financial, or accounting experience, preferably in a large and complex university or not-for-profit setting.
    • Knowledge of the University of Illinois at Chicago, SCT Banner finance module, SAP Business Objects, EDDIE, and other related campus-based business/finance systems.
    • Knowledge of fund accounting, GASB and GAAP
    • Knowledge of federal and State regulations governing University business and financial activities.
    • Experience with Tableau or other business analytics platforms.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, other Microsoft Office applications and software tools.
    • Excellent communication skills for both internal and external customers and constituencies.
    • Ability to follow previously prepared documentation and identify sources for current period information.
    • Provide appropriate feedback to other reimbursement team members including upward, lateral, and downward staff.
    • Time management including managing work product delivery to established internal and statutory deadlines.
