Job Description

General Purpose

Under the supervision of the Hazardous Materials/Facilities Manager, John Bollin and in accordance with UMKC, the Assistant will serve as an ambassador for the UMKC School of Science and Engineering with a cheerful and positive attitude. They will be working in and out of labs and offices, doing manual labor work.

Principle Areas of Responsibility

  • Needs to be comfortable entering/working in labs of all types (chemistry, physics, engineering..)
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, dirt.. to be expected.
  • Able to do manual labor
  • Must be reliable and prompt.
  • Be a self starter.
  • Be detail oriented.
  • Able to lift 50lbs.
  • Look for the next thing to do, even when known tasks are complete.
  • Assist visitors, to identify needs, answer questions, solve problems, address concerns and direct to other offices as needed.
  • Provide quality customer service and demonstrate professionalism in a confidential setting.
  • Assess questions; offer solutions or additional resources such as a manager to assist.
  • Data entry, mailing and other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Set up meeting rooms.
  • Distribute incoming forms, mail and packages.
  • Run errands in Flarsheim and other campus buildings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or degree

Anticipated Hiring Range

$13.50/hr
