ACH Specialist Location: Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union (Mid-Atlantic FCU) - Germantown, MD Reports to: Accounting Manager Classification: Full-Time Non-Exempt About Mid-Atlantic FCU: Mid-Atlantic FCU is a member-owned financial cooperative dedicated to providing personalized financial solutions, fostering financial well-being, and supporting our local communities. Role: This role is primarily responsible for processing Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions, maintaining compliance with regulations, and supporting financial operations, including general ledger account balancing. The ACH Specialist assists in all areas of the accounting department and contributes to team development while ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and operational efficiency. Major Duties and Responsibilities: (E) Essential / (N) Non-essential - (E) Process incoming and outgoing ACH transactions, including returns, adjustments, and reconciliations. - (E) Investigate and resolve ACH exceptions, disputes, and member account discrepancies. - (E) Ensure timely reconciliation of ACH settlements and prepare journal entries. - (E) Monitor and process ACH notifications of change (NOCs) and death notification entries (DNEs). - (E) Process ACH reclamation and recover funds for authorizations or erroneous transactions. - (E)Investigate and resolve reclamation cases while ensuring compliance with NACHA and federal regulations. - (E) Balance general ledger accounts related to ACH transactions. - (E) Maintain compliance with NACHA rules, federal regulations, and credit union policies, staying updated on any regulatory changes. - (E) Provide guidance to internal teams regarding member ACH transactions and best practices. - (E) Train relevant staff on ACH compliance updates as needed. - (E) Ensure compliance with financial regulations and Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union policies. - (N) Assist with internal audits and regulatory examinations related to ACH and wire processing. - (N) Verify or enter MAFCU/MAFP corporate wires to ensure accuracy and compliance. - (N) Post or return incoming wires, ensuring proper documentation and timely processing. - (N) Participate in cross-training within the accounting department to support broader financial operations. - (N) Performs other duties as assigned. Expectations: 1. Treats all members and staff in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner. 2. Prepare all reports within the prescribed time frame and with zero errors. 3. Keep all assigned general ledger accounts current and in balance daily. 4. Assist others within and outside the department as needed. 5. Protects credit union assets and records, as well as the privacy of member information, by following all established procedures and guidelines. 6. Remains cognizant of and adheres to Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union's policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act. 7. Ensure ACH transactions are processed within designated timeframes with a high degree of accuracy. Knowledge and Skills: - ACH certification is preferred but not required at the time of hire. However, candidates are strongly encouraged to pursue certification within their first year in the role. - 1-3 years of experience in ACH processing, financial operations, or accounting roles within a credit union or financial institution. - Strong understanding of financial transactions, regulatory compliance, and ACH processing software such as FIS, Fiserv, or similar platforms. - Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information that may require some discussion. - Other Skills: Job is located in a general office environment and is accomplished by using a personal computer, telephone, copier, calculator, and fax machine. Physical and Technical Standards: Candidates must have the ability to type proficiently, operate a computer, lift up to 50 pounds safely, and possess adequate vision and hearing to perform essential job functions.
