Position Overview
The General Maintenance Repair Tec is skilled in installing, maintaining, repairing, and operating the building equipment and grounds of the KU Edwards Campus. This position provides a variety of services for the faculty, staff, students, and outside organizations that use the campus's facilities and resources. The work schedule for this position will be determined between supervisor and employee; schedule options both work Saturday from 7a-5:30p but the candidate can choose between Tuesday through Thursday from 11a - 9:30p OR Wednesday through Friday from 9a-7:30p.

Job Description
Responsible for campus maintenance - 65%
  • Maintain the appearance of the building and grounds.
  • Under supervisor's direction, assists in specific preventative maintenance and repairs to ensure that all mechanical systems are in good working order, such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.
  • Install, operate, repair, and maintain all mechanical systems as directed.
  • Part of essential staff responsible for snow removal from sidewalks, entryways, etc. Apply ice melt to all appropriate surfaces per direction of the Facilities Manager. Place appropriate signage as necessary (i.e.- slippery when wet).
  • Responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly system checks, such as HVAC, Lights, emergency equipment, etc.
  • Complete the necessary paperwork associated with assigned projects.
  • Assist with grounds work, pulling weeds, trimming bushes/trees, and removing outdoor trash.
  • Digitally enter work order information and perform other electronic communications as required.
  • Operate work issued vehicles for transporting equipment and materials.

Events/Class setups- 15%
  • Coordinate with Manager, Campus Events, and supervisor to ensure set up and other resources are complete for both external and internal events.
  • Set up and configure classrooms for KU classes.
  • Provide equipment and set up as requested by external clients for day of needs.
  • Assist with access to space for external guests.
  • Unlock facility and classrooms for Saturday classes and events.
  • Replace markers and erasers in classrooms.

Saturday custodial duties- 15%
  • Empty trash/recyclables.
  • Spot mop, vacuum, and sweep as needed.
  • Wipe down tables and chairs after events or classes as needed.
  • Touch up bathrooms, replace paper products, clean toilets and/or floors and counters.

Perform other duties as assigned- 5%

Position Requirements
  1. Must have a valid driver's license and maintain the license through employment.
  2. Must be willing to work a varied shift (Days, nights, and weekends).
  3. Ability to kneel, squat, bend, lift, climb, and stand for prolonged periods of time.Reach, grasp, hold, lift and place moderately heavy loads and heavy loads occasionally (50 lbs) with or without accommodation.

Required Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Two years' experience in maintenance work using basic power tools, hand tools, and cleaning equipment.
  3. One year of experience may be substituted with an associate's degree or vocational school certificate.
  4. Experience working with a population of various backgrounds and levels of an organization, as evidenced in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of the following qualifications must be reflected in application materials and interview process:
  1. Experience that required following verbal and written instructions to complete tasks on time.
  2. Experience working independently with minimal supervision.
  3. Experience applying reason to solve problems independently.
  4. Experience applying knowledge of standard practices, tools, equipment, and materials associated with a variety of skilled crafts and building trades, which could include but is not limited to, electrical, carpentry, landscaping, and plumbing.
  5. Experience with office computer systems, including Microsoft Suite: Outlook, Word, and Excel; Zoom and related technologies.
