In this role, you'll be instrumental in shaping how Pinterest's Ads organization leverages data for strategic decision-making. You'll lead a Horizontal Data Science team, acting as an internal consultancy to empower our product, engineering, and business teams with accessible, reliable data and actionable insights.

Specifically, you will:



  • Build, Inspire, and Grow a High-Performance Team: Recruit, mentor, and develop a team of talented Data Scientists and BI engineers, fostering a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Drive Data Democratization: Champion and execute strategies for data accessibility and literacy across the Ads organization. This includes overseeing the design and maintenance of foundational data tables and robust business intelligence dashboards that serve as the single source of truth for key metrics.
  • Translate Business Needs into Data Solutions: Partner closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to deeply understand their challenges. Lead your team to translate ambiguous business questions into structured analytical problems, providing the "why" and "how" behind performance.
  • Ensure Data Trustworthiness and Quality: Establish and uphold high standards for data integrity, consistency, and reliability in all team outputs. Ensure your team consistently delivers trustworthy and high-quality analyses that directly influence strategic and operational decisions.
  • Be a Strategic Thought Partner: Leverage your strong business and product acumen to identify opportunities, proactively generate insights, and drive data-driven decision-making aligned with the organization's strategic objectives. While less focused on model development, you'll ensure data insights inform downstream ML applications and product improvements.
  • Communicate for Impact: Articulate complex data findings, insights, and recommendations clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences, influencing business strategy and outcomes.
  • Cultivate an Inclusive Environment: Be a champion for building highly talented and diverse teams with an inclusive culture where every voice is heard and valued.



What type of experience do they you to have?



  • MS or PhD in a quantitative field or equivalent experience
  • Experience in managing small teams of highly technical scientists, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Hands on experience as a data scientist, some experience in data management and Business Intelligence
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with hypothesis driven product development
  • Experience being a thought partner to improve decision quality and able to influence with expertise
  • Industrial experience with ads product and metrics.

In-Office Requirement Statement:



  • We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we're not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection.
  • This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 1 times per week and therefore needs to be in a commutable distance from one of the following offices: San Francisco, Palo Alto, or Seattle.
