Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The
UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of six health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Social Work, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The School teaches approximately 600 PharmD students and 145 graduate students. Position Summary |
THIS IS A TIME-LIMITED POSITION WITH AN ESTIMATED DURATION OF 3 YEARS.
The Executive Assistant serves as a strategic partner, agent, and gatekeeper for the Office of Professional Education (
OPE) leadership team in the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Program. This position reports directly to the Assistant Dean for PharmD Strategy and Assessment while providing critical support to the Associate Dean for Didactic Education, Assistant Dean for Individualization, Assistant Dean for Experiential Curriculum, and the Associate Dean for Admissions and Accreditation. The
OPE leadership team works with the Executive Vice Dean - Chief Academic Officer (
EVD-
CAO) and the School's leadership team to ensure the strategic alignment of PharmD program with School initiatives and to foster a culture of excellence in alignment with the core values of the School. Additionally, the
OPE leadership team works with internal and external constituents, including faculty, staff, educators, learners, and partners to deliver a vanguard educational program. The Executive Assistant plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless flow of communication, managing priorities, and advancing executive initiatives within a fast-paced, complex environment.
In this capacity, the Executive Assistant serves as the central point of contact for incoming inquiries, filtering and prioritizing communications to ensure alignment with strategic objectives. This role requires a deep understanding of the PharmD program's policies, procedures, and operations to effectively respond to internal and external stakeholders including faculty, staff, educators, learners, and external partners. Additionally, the Executive Assistant provides key insights and updates on departmental activities, enabling leadership to make informed decisions and drive initiatives forward.
The primary responsibilities include managing calendars and correspondence, coordinating high-profile meetings and events, and overseeing project and program management. The Executive Assistant proactively tracks and reports on project as needed, ensuring the efficient execution of executive priorities. With a high degree of autonomy, this role involves independent problem-solving, analyzing and prioritizing complex information, and making critical recommendations regarding workflow and communications. Operating with the highest level of professionalism and discretion, the Executive Assistant must navigate evolving priorities, manage sensitive information, and facilitate timely execution of tasks in a dynamic environment. This individual will also support the preparation of reports, including progress and budget updates, to maintain transparency and alignment with institutional goals.
Executive Assistant plays an integral role in the strategic and operational success of the PharmD program by ensuring the effective management of executive responsibilities, facilitating communication, and driving forward key initiatives that support the mission of the School. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate's degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience ; or Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
