General Summary:

Under the general supervision, but in accordance with established policies and procedures, executes the training and development functions for all Credit Union positions. Oversees research, development and presentation of in-house training programs and organizational development projects. Recommends and coordinates external learning and development programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Primary focus on USSFCUs Nesting Program for the Retail Team. Proficient in systems used by front line staff with the ability to train on using these platforms.
  • Works with training manager to support all teams to develop training efforts around the strategic vision of the Credit Union training program.
  • Directs the development and execution of the Credit Union's training program including new employee orientation, employee certification and recurring training (internal and external).
  • Composes tailored instructions, procedures and manuals for distribution and internal publication for end users incorporating both explanations and logical operating instructions, to include screen shots and job aids on applicable operations systems.
  • Consults with Senior Management and conducts interviews, surveys, and focus groups with departments to determine current and future training and development needs. Recommends actions to meet those needs and efficiently foster change. Recommends efficient learning delivery methods / environment (i.e. online, webinar, classroom, etc.) to optimize the learning experience.
  • Oversees research, design, implementation and evaluation of training programs and projects. Serves as administrator and creator of content for BVS online learning platform.
  • Reviews vendor provided documentation for applicable systems and becomes proficient in these systems as implemented in the Credit Union's operating environment, as applicable, to write procedures and train end users.
  • Participates in or attend system walkthroughs to ascertain key features and critical structures for purposes of training and end user documentation.
  • Systematically reviews existing policies and procedures to ensure documentation is up to date and current regarding new features, regulatory changes, upgrades, releases, modifications and enhancements.
  • Coordinates the written documentation and organization of departmental Credit Union procedures with managers and supervisors.
  • Directs develops and coordinates management, customer service, product line, operational and technical training programs.
  • Assists in development of, and ensures compliance with, annual budget subject to Board of Directors approved spending limits of Executive officers.
  • Counsels' employees and promotes awareness of, and involvement in, education and training opportunities.
  • Oversees administration of record keeping on internal and external education expenses and obtains proper approvals.
  • Edits and directs the production of the training and development materials.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of all Credit Union products, services, policies and procedures.
  • Keeps abreast of current trends in talent development, effective learning styles, instructional design strategies (to include gamification) and networks with other learning professionals through association membership and conferences.
  • Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings. Travel required to multiple locations possible.
  • Complies with all applicable Rules, Regulations and Statutes of the NCUA and other appropriate governing bodies to include but not limited to: the Credit Union Bylaws, Bank Secrecy Act, Fair Housing Act, Fair Lending Act, and Fair Credit Reporting.

Experience and Skills

Education: Associate's degree in business or three years of equivalent experience.

Experience: Two (2) years general work experience plus three (3) years progressively responsible experience in training and development preferably in a financial services setting.

Skills: Ability to understand a broad range of financial service operations and duties and effectively develop training material and programs for them. Proficiency with PC applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint required. Strong organization skills required. Experience with online learning platforms / environments preferred.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Dynamic public speaking and presentation skills required. Ability to work professionally with a variety of staff, management, members, and vendors.

Salary: Staunton, VA $53,340.98 - $80,011.47
