Job Summary:



Position Emphasis:

The CU College of Nursing (CU Nursing) is seeking a part-time (0.50 FTE) Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD) Program Manager to manage nursing continuing professional development activities with the college. The NCPD Program Manager serves as the Primary Nurse Planner (PNP), an American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) designation, in all programs developed through this office or external programs that are brought to this office for the awarding of NCPD contact hours. Broad functions of the NCPD Program Manager as the PNP include the development of NCPD processes, which contribute to the College of Nursing and the University of Colorado in general. The NCPD Program Manager provides ongoing leadership and management of the NCPD Program, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of all NCPD programs, ensures adherence to ANCC and Colorado Nurses Association (CNA) accreditation criteria, and is accountable for services provided.

Examples of Work Performed:

Program Administration and Evaluation (60%)



  • Work with the College Finance department to ensure the ongoing financial viability of program offerings through the Continuing Nursing Education Program.

    • Manage NCPD and registration revenue transactions.
    • Oversight of all NCPD program expenses.


  • Include the College Marketing department in all ongoing development of marketing strategies for strategic visibility of Continuing Nursing Education Programs.
  • Finalize and approve brochures, flyers, and emails for each NCPD activity.
  • Develop and implement the plan for the production and distribution of online and/or printed syllabi and multiple other documents provided and required for NCPD activities.
  • Ensure that all reports to ANCC/CNA are timely, accurate, and complete.
  • Ensure that all reports to the CU Nursing Dean, the Associate Dean of Clinical & Community Affairs, and other leaders are timely, accurate, and complete.
  • Recommend program expansion or contraction as necessary.


Program Planning and Development (40%)



  • Collaborate with Dean, Associate Deans, administrators, and faculty to develop new programs and review existing courses.

    • New program development:

      • Assess feasibility.
      • Develop funding models with CU Nursing Office of Finance and Administration.
      • Ensure compliance with University, Campus policies, and ANCC/CNA NCPD requirements.


    • Existing program review:

      • Optimize enrollments.
      • Ensure fiscal viability.
      • Regularly update and revise materials for high-quality NCPD programs.




  • Maintain updated PNP skills with ANCC/CNA.
  • Attend monthly CNA PNP meetings.
  • Update and maintain Educational Activity Planning Form (EAP) to meet ANCC/CNA criteria.
  • Educate Anschutz Campus partners on EAP.
  • Update and maintain Educational Design and Disclosure Forms, Faculty Reply and Recording Consent Forms, and Disclosure of Relevant Financial Relationships Forms.
  • Demonstrate the mitigation process in EAP.
  • Develop a Disclosure Handout for learners with planning organizations, including:

    • Program title and date.
    • Approval statement.
    • Criteria for successful completion.
    • Relevant financial relationships disclosures.
    • Commercial support.
    • Joint providers.


  • Update and maintain NCPD certificate.


Determine contact hours and criteria for awarding them with planning organizations.

o Develop and approve final proposals for NCPD contact hour credit.



  • Foster interprofessional activities with Anschutz Campus continuing education entities and other campus schools and hospitals.
  • Implement NCPD processes required by ANCC/CNA with activity planning committees, including:

    • Determine target audience and perform needs assessments.
    • Assess faculty/speaker expertise and educational plans.
    • Evaluate disclosures/conflicts of interest and address them.
    • Verify attendance and successful completion of activities.
    • Provide and assess final evaluations to inform future activities.
    • Determine and award contact hours for each activity.


  • Develop and implement NCPD programs with Planning Committees from Anschutz Medical Campus and community partners.
  • Communicate and negotiate with speakers/faculty and planning committees on objectives/outcomes and teaching strategies.
  • Network with outside NCPD programs and professional organizations to provide nursing education.
  • Initiate and provide interprofessional NCPD/CE activities with university entities and partners.
  • Work with authors/faculty to provide high-quality, up-to-date, and enduring education materials for NCPD content available online.



Work Location:



Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of a certain number of days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • A bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Four (4) years of experience in designing, delivering, and evaluating nursing education programs, and maintaining ANCC/CNA compliance.


Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Condition of Employment:



  • Must hold a current and active Colorado Registered Nurse license.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution
  • National Advanced Practice Nurse certification in professional development or a related field


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Strong base of knowledge and experience in Advanced Practice Nursing and national nursing continuing professional development requirements.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex, overlapping projects, setting priorities, and other administrative skills.
  • Communication skills and flexibility for successful interactions with individuals in the College of Nursing, throughout the University of Colorado, and in the broader health care community.
  • Knowledge of other national continuing education accreditation requirements/applications, such as CME, AAFP, NAPNAP, or others.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $35,275 to $44,870 (calculated for 0.5 FTE).

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
