Basic Function

The Benefits Specialist supports the daily administration of company-sponsored benefit plans, primarily focused on U.S. programs with occasional involvement in international benefits. This role serves as a key point of contact for employees and retirees, ensuring excellent customer service and accurate benefit delivery. The Benefits Specialist works closely with internal teams and external partners, including brokers, auditors, and third-party administrators, to support plan operations, compliance, and ongoing improvements.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Read, understand, and maintain governing plan documents, including Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs) and business requirements documents; interpret and clearly explain plan provisions to employees and retirees in a way that is accurate, consistent, and easy to understand.
  • Administer day-to-day operations of health, welfare, and retirement benefit programs
  • Guide open enrollment processes, life event changes, and new hire benefit elections
  • Serve as a first point of contact for employee and retiree benefit inquiries, providing timely and accurate guidance
  • Manage and build relationships with vendors, brokers, and third-party administrators to ensure seamless benefit delivery
  • Lead benefits-related audits, data requests, and compliance reporting
  • Reconcile monthly benefit invoices and process payments accurately and on time
  • Audit employee benefit records and support data entry into HRIS and vendor systems
  • Develop communication materials, such as FAQs, guides, and intranet updates
  • Provide consultation and support for international benefit programs as needed
  • Drive process improvement and manage special projects to enhance employee experience and operational efficiency

Min. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree; Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred; or equivalent experience
  • Typically 2-3 years of professional experience; HR or employee benefits experience preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • High attention to detail and organizational ability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with HRIS and benefit administration platforms (e.g., Workday, SAP, ADP, BenefitFocus)
  • Basic understanding of benefit plan compliance and regulations (e.g., ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, COBRA)
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, including comfort working with data and spreadsheets
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience supporting or administering retiree plans and/or international benefit programs is a plus
