Centra Illinois Area Command

Position Title: Seasonal Maintenance Assistant

Job Summary: Responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of approximately nine commercial and five residential properties primarily located in the Peoria area. Duties range from assisting with major projects to basic items at the various properties. Also included are duties related to the seasonal events and activities located at through out the tri-county area and will involve both indoor and outdoor work.

Reports To: Facilities Manager

Pay Grade: 402

Salary Range: $15.75 - $18.90

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a passion for fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army and must be articulate in presenting the same to others.

Candidates must successfully pass the pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check with a valid driver's license.

Education:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience considered.



Skills:



  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage people and projects successfully.
  • Team player, self-starter, and perform well with minimal supervision.
  • Must have an interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email, MS Office applications, Internet and Social Media platforms.
  • Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary. Especially in emergent situations.

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Assist with day to day maintenance and operations of the various facilities to ensure safe, pleasing, and reliable environment for staff and clients
  • Help with maintaining grounds of the various facilities as needed
  • Provide scheduled preventative maintenance to all equipment, such as appliances, forklift, and walk-in coolers and freezers
  • Assist with pick up of donations from various locations as needed
  • Pick up and deliver supplies that may be purchased from various local vendors
  • Make deliveries for various facilities of donated items to be distributed
  • Work with supervisor and/or departments to setup and tear down for events
  • Maintain an inventory of food items in the warehouse available to the Kitchen Manager
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices.
  • Maintain compliance in The Salvation Army's "Safe from Harm" Certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned as related to seasonal needs.



Local travel will be required.

Position Ranking:



  • Part Time, Non-Exempt, Seasonal Temporary (no more than 90 days)



Physical Demands/ Work Environment:

This position is required to do moderate to heavy physical work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to lift forty plus pounds, bend, twist, carry, move, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, stand for an extended period of time and frequently required to reach with and use arms and hands as required in operating equipment such as a forklift and Salvation Army vehicles. Specific vision abilities for this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to focus. The work environment for this position includes a warehouse environment with moderate to high noise level.

This Position is required to do basic physical, business and office work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to talk and listen, stand, walk, sit and use hands. Individual must be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occassionally lift up to one hundred pounds. The use of Office and Computer Equipment is necessary. Vision abilities will require close vision. Work may be performed indoors and outdoors, once must be comfortable with cold temperature exposure. There is a moderate noise level for this position.
