The Position

As part of Pharma Technical Operations (PT), Pharma Technical Technology (PTT) plays a key role in leading a seamless industrialization and thorough technical product management through integrating SHE, proactive maintenance, facility fitness, performance optimization and scalable manufacturing processes and technologies in support of the manufacturing network. Product and process robustness, efficiency and reliability are key performance indicators, PTT owns and drives towards improvement.

Within PTT, Roche's global Manufacturing Science and Technology (gMSAT) department is the process and product owner for our commercial products, including our internal and external drug substance and drug product network, implementation of new technologies, network standardization, and mitigation of technical risks. The team is organized by product-focused Large Molecule and Small Molecule (DS & DP), Technology and Network Standards and Operations (e.g. Process Stewards, Tech Deployment, and Pilot Plant) teams and operates in cross-functional teams.

The Operations Bioprocess (Pilot Plant) Scientist/Engineer for large molecule drug substance designs & executes experiments to support process and product improvements, technology development & implementation, process validation, hands-on second-level commercial product support and process transfer to & from internal manufacturing and contract manufacturing sites, as requested. This team is an execution-obsessed team focused on conducting experiments within our existing pilot plant network, accurately documenting and analyzing data, summarizing results in technical documents and oral presentations, and supporting health authority submissions and inquiries. This role may also support or lead inter-departmental process, technology and business process improvement projects.

In this role you will maximize individual and collective contributions to deliver timely business results in support of PTT and PT goals. You will enable the network to solve process and technology driven operational challenges through data-driven insights and laboratory / pilot plant experimentation for internal and external manufacturing networks.

The Opportunity
  • Interface with Technical Development and Manufacturing (Internal and External) teams to design and execute lab-scale experiments within the MSAT laboratory / pilot plant

  • Document and analyze data, summarizing results in technical documents and oral presentations, and support health authority submissions

  • Solves problems autonomously and adapts plans to address resource and operational challenges

  • Work on multiple projects, prioritizing effectively, and adapting to changes quickly

  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in bioprocess technologies

  • Serve as an ambassador for the function with the ability to influence stakeholders for new technology development and implementation

  • Provide knowledge and training on complex process and equipment technologies to PT partners as required

Who you are

  • Experience & Education: You have a B.S. or M.S. degree in Chemical, Biochemical Engineering, or related discipline with at least three years of experience in the industry OR a PhD with 0-2 years of of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry with process development, operations/manufacturing, or related experience

  • Technical Expertise: Extensive practical and theoretical expertise in process development and manufacturing, with deep understanding of the drug development process

  • Ability to build connections, encourage feedback, and foster a collaborative environment, strong written and verbal communications skills

Relocation benefits are not available for this posting

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $105,000-$195,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
