The UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences is the first public pharmacy school in the Los Angeles-Orange County region. Its faculty and programs span a continuum from discovery, development, and delivery of new drugs, devices, and diagnostics all the way to optimizing medication therapy in patients and patient populations. The school offers a BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences, MS in Pharmacology, PhD in Pharmacological Sciences, and Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD.) https://pharmsci.uci.edu

As part of the Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences, we actively collaborate with schools and programs in medicine, nursing, and population, public health, and the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute to educate, train, and mentor the next generation of pharmaceutical scientists and clinical pharmacists. Your Role on the Team

Within the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Executive Director of Experiential Pharmacy Education is responsible for the management of the administrative services and / or general operations of a highly specialized technical function / team, the Pharmacy Experiential Education unit, which provides quality clinical educational experiences for Doctor of Pharmacy students (PharmD).
Clinical practice pharmacy rotation sites are real-world settings where pharmacy students or trainees gain hands-on experience in the application of their academic knowledge to patient care. These sites are typically located in healthcare environments such as hospitals, outpatient clinics, long-term care facilities, or other healthcare settings where pharmacists are actively involved in patient care.

The office of pharmacy experiential education develops and implements all experiential opportunities for Pharm.D. students, as well as developing and overseeing preceptor development and training programs all while ensuring adherence to ACPE accreditation standards and requirements related to experiential education. Additionally, the incumbent is required to interface and collaborate with external educational institutions (within and outside of California) to ensure consistent and quality experiential education. Also, must stay apprised of regulatory requirements that impact future licensure of student pharmacists.

As a recognized expert, they lead complex strategizing and planning that has a critical impact throughout the organization, driving continuous program improvement efforts to increase educational quality and operational efficiency. They establish operational objectives and work plans, delegate assignments to subordinate managers, and oversee resource management, including preparing, administering, and directing budgets. They review and approve recommendations for functional programs and monitor departmental adherence to the approved budget. Furthermore, they are involved in developing, modifying, and executing organizational policies that affect both immediate operations and have an organization-wide impact.

  • Leads teams and directs projects through from inception to completion on schedule.
  • Excellent personal organization skills.
  • Expert knowledge of current and emerging educational technologies to enhance teaching and learning practices.
  • Expert ability to facilitate educational technology opportunities using technology-based solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program.
  • Pharm.D. and / or BS Pharmacy degree plus equivalent experience / training
  • 8 to 10 years of relevant job experience with a BA/BS in related field; or 3 to 5 years with an MA/MS; or equivalent experience.

Special Conditions:

  • Frequent travel within two-hour radius of UCI required to facilitate site development and management. Occasional travel to local, state, or national professional meetings/conferences.
