Your Role on the Team

The University of California, Irvine is seeking qualified candidates for a Clinical Associate Neonatologist position for clinical coverage. Duties will include clinical service primarily at the UCI newborn intensive care unit (NICU) in Fountain Valley. The successful candidate must be board eligible/certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, and licensed/eligible in California.

Clinical responsibilities will involve:

* Provide direct care to critically ill and/or premature newborns. Stabilize and manage neonates with complex medical conditions in the NICU.
* Perform neonatal procedures including but not limited to: intubations, umbilical line placements, lumbar punctures, thoracentesis, and other specialized procedures.
* Lead and participate in neonatal resuscitation. Attend high-risk deliveries and provide immediate postnatal care, including resuscitation as needed.
* Coordinate multidisciplinary care. Collaborate with NICU nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers, and other pediatric subspecialists in the care of NICU patients
* Communicate with families. Provide empathetic, clear communication to families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and prognoses.
* Maintain accurate medical records. Document patient care thoroughly in compliance with hospital standards and regulatory requirements.
* Participate in call coverage. Provide in-hospital coverage daily if on clinical service. Provide night time on-call coverage from home as scheduled to ensure 24/7 availability of neonatal care. MUST have the ability to respond on-site within 30 minutes. *

Primary responsibilities of this position will involve:

* Participate in quality improvement initiatives. Engage in hospital-based efforts to improve outcomes and enhance patient safety.
* Provide leadership within a hospital-based environment. Ability to motivate, inspire, and communicate with faculty, residents, staff, and peers to maintain a professional, team-based approach in the care of patients.
* Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and objectives while in compliance of all UC policies and procedures. Includes maintenance of patient confidentiality and compliance with all state and federal privacy laws.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Adhere to policies set by the hospital, the Joint Commission, and other governing bodies.
* Engage in continuing medical education. Stay current with the latest research and guidelines in neonatology through CME, conferences, and scholarly activities.
* Maintain board certification.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience in quality improvement to improve patient outcomes.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and objectives while in compliance of all UC policies and procedures. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all state and federal privacy laws.
  • Leadership skills; ability to motivate, inspire, communicate with faculty, residents, staff, and peers to maintain a professional, team-based approach in the care of patients.
  • Candidates must possess a M.D. or D.O. degree
  • Board-certified or eligible in the field of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
  • Must possess, or be eligible to obtain, a valid medical license in the State of California.

Special Conditions:

  • Letters of recommendation attesting to applicant's clinical competence, professionalism, and ability to fulfill the responsibilities expected of a Clinical Neonatologist.
  • MUST have the ability to respond on-site within 30 minutes.
  • Can help cover vacation time
