Job Overview

The Senior Director, Corporate Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) leads budgeting, planning, forecasting, and financial analysis for the enterprise and corporate functions supporting Macy's, Inc. As the head of the corporate FP&A team, the Senior Director develops long-range plans, annual budgets, and monthly forecasts to drive strategic initiatives and support business agility. They work cross-functionally and provide analytical support for evolving business needs, including gross margin planning and close collaboration with key operating partners.

The Senior Director partners with senior business and finance leaders to deliver insights, guide financial decisions, and identify opportunities for growth, productivity, and profit improvement. They build and lead a high-performing finance team and establish a strong financial planning foundation that links operational goals with financial targets.

This role reports to the Vice President, FP&A, and manages a team of skilled finance professionals.

What You Will Do

Financial Planning



  • Partner cross-functionally with all business units and divisions to identify trends, risks, and opportunities across the enterprise. Collaborate with business leaders to drive improvements in expense management and gross margin, and lead the enterprise-wide monthly forecast and annual planning processes.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with broader finance teams to support multiple planning cycles and drive improvements in financial outcomes.
  • Lead analysis of financial performance against key business metrics and develop new reporting tools and dashboards to keep senior leaders informed.
  • Review financial reports from other teams, manage interdepartmental relationships, track performance, and communicate insights to finance leadership.
  • Lead the enterprise cash flow planning and forecasting process, providing executive management with a clear understanding of working capital trends and key cash flow drivers.
  • Develop and deliver monthly financial forecast packages for executive leadership and the Board of Directors.


Financial Modeling



  • Perform advanced financial analysis, including three-statement modeling, to evaluate scenarios and assess the impact of various financial assumptions and outcomes.
  • Lead teams in the development of ad hoc reports and analyses, translating complex findings into clear, concise written summaries and compelling visual presentations.
  • Present financial models and insights to Macy's leadership, ensuring they are understandable to both financial and non-financial audiences.


Leadership



  • Manage a team of senior analysts responsible for developing and analyzing expense forecasts, cash flow projections, and gross margin performance.
  • Prioritize and delegate workload effectively, driving the strategic approach to financial modeling and analysis.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills in managing competing priorities, responding to frequent requests, and meeting tight deadlines for executive leadership and Board deliverables.
  • Motivate, coach, and mentor junior team members to support professional development and build a high-performing finance team.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop impactful corporate presentations that influence decision-making.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance the quality, accuracy, and thoroughness of financial planning and analysis.
  • Take initiative to lead additional responsibilities or projects in support of a dynamic and growing organization.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.

Skills You Will Need

Cross-Functional Collaboration - Ability to partner effectively with all business units and divisions to identify enterprise-wide trends, risks, and opportunities, and drive improvements in expenses, gross margin, and forecasting processes.

Financial Planning & Forecasting - Expertise in leading complex budgeting, monthly forecasting, and long-range planning cycles to support strategic initiatives and business agility.

Advanced Financial Analysis & Modeling - Proficiency in performing detailed financial analysis, including three-statement modeling, scenario planning, and developing ad hoc reports with clear, insightful presentations for both financial and non-financial audiences.

Leadership & Team Management - Strong experience managing, mentoring, and motivating a high-performing finance team, delegating workloads strategically, and fostering professional development.

Communication & Presentation - Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and persuasively to senior leaders, boards, and cross-functional teams.

Strategic Thinking & Execution - Results-oriented mindset with the ability to think creatively and strategically, execute flawlessly, and adapt flexibly in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.

Relationship Building & Trust - Proven ability to build trusted partnerships with senior finance and business leaders, operating with high ethical standards, integrity, and credibility.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. MBA preferred. 10+ years of experience in a public company; retail experience preferred.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, remaining in a stationary position, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves remaining in a stationary position for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
