Location:

San Francisco, CA - Filling industrial How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW? The Production Operator II with CDL will be responsible for safely handling and filling gas products into liquid, medical, and high-pressure gas cylinders in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and meeting the standard operating procedures of Airgas. May be asked to safely and efficiently, operate a commercial motor vehicle and deliver atmospheric, flammable, industrial gasses and hard-good products to customers by performing the following.

Pay: $26-$28.25/Hr. Depends on experience, monthly bonus opportunity.
  • Performing various duties in the plant, including monitoring equipment to fill industrial gas mixes, cryogenic gases, and medical gas products, and performing both level 1 & 2 duties.
  • Inspects cylinders prior to filling, following standard procedures as required by government, Airgas, and distributor standards. Conducts a variety of Safety checks per procedures, such as odor tests and checking caps and valves.
  • Analyzes products for purity and correct mixtures.
  • Handles high-pressure, medical, and liquid cylinders. Prepares high-pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling. Attaches to the manifold and evacuates cylinders to eliminate all possible contaminants.
  • Fills cylinders by pressure and weight, per regulations and standards.
  • Assists with the loading and unloading of cylinders on and off pallets and tractor trailers. Operates a forklift, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment.
  • Manages paperwork to DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards. Completes quality control sheets as required.
  • Understands hazards of various gases, sizes, and contents of cylinders by reading and interpreting cylinder labels and the color-coding of tanks. Accurately labels cylinders.
  • Compliance with all government and company standards for safely handling hazardous materials/cylinder gases.
  • Maintains a neat, clean, and orderly plant appearance.
  • Loads and unloads service trucks with gas cylinders, containers and supplies for scheduled route deliveries as directed by the dispatcher.
  • Makes deliveries in a timely manner to ensure customer satisfaction is met.
  • Ensures that all documents required to move and deliver the load are available and accurate.
  • Maintain a safe driving record and appropriate driver's license classification while operating company vehicles and equipment.
  • Inspects vehicles for defects and safe operating conditions before each delivery (pre-trip) and submit necessary documentation to report any defects or problems immediately.
  • Performs post-trip delivery at the end of each shift.
  • Identify potential problems with cylinders and notify management in a timely manner.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures and comply with all federal, state, local and DOT regulations.

Required Education:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Required Length & Type of Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of prior experience in related manufacturing operation; filling or loading experience preferred

  • Must possess a valid Class A/B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Hazmat and Airbrake endorsements.

  • Must have 1 year of CDL driving experience in the last 5 years or be able able to provide proof of a certificate of completion from trucking school completed in the last 5 years.

  • No more than two (2) traffic convictions: OR two (2) at-fault accident in the last 3 years; or no more than a combination of one (1) traffic conviction and one (1) at-fault accident in the last 3 years

  • No driving while under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance within the last seven (7) years

  • Be able to regularly lift 75lbs and move more than 125lbs with the aid of material handling equipment

  • Strong background in gas, welding, and safety supply industry or chemical industry preferred

  • Ability to complete training and achieve certifications for filling all cryogenic liquids and pure industrial gases.

  • Ability to complete FDA, Food Grade, and CGMP Training and achieve certifications

  • Must be able to safely operate forklift and maintain appropriate forklift certifications.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA's):

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend material safety data sheets.
  • Must be able to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds.
  • Excellent customer service and communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Possess the ability to read a map and follow directions to effectively navigate delivery routes.
  • Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Strong level of attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of all Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations for commercial drivers.
  • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
  • Must meet all physical qualification standards imposed by regulation for drivers.
  • DOT pre-employment and random drug testing applies. Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
