This is a full-time twelve-month, P&A staff appointment reporting to the Associate Director for Employer Relations. The Employer Relations Coordinator position is an integral part of the team and is a critical role that serves two of our three colleges (College of Continuing & Professional Studies and College of Design) and is responsible for overseeing and managing all functions related to the center's employer outreach by strategically identifying, cultivating and maintaining employer relationships with a focus on creating and ensuring access to internship and employment opportunities for CIS students and alumni. They are expected to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards and communicate and enforce University policies with regard to posting jobs, on campus interviewing, career fairs, and communication between candidates and employers. The Employer Relations Coordinator will participate within a team-based environment in the delivery of CIS initiatives. Career & Internship Services (CIS) serves over 5,000 currently enrolled and degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students and recent alumni in the following colleges: College of Continuing and Professional Studies, College of Design, and the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences.
Responsibilities Employer Relations - 40% * Strategically identify and build relationships with local, regional, national and international employers in order to provide students and alumni with high quality internship and full-time employment opportunities. * Seek out and develop new, mutually beneficial employer relationships to expand career opportunities. * Advise employers on the most effective means of identifying potential candidates to meet their needs. * Work with collegiate partners including alumni, staff, faculty, and others to identify prospective employers. * Organize and conduct outreach to employers promoting job fairs, events, and other relevant activities. * Collaborate and maintain relations with faculty, staff and student organizations. Career Events - 35% * Plan and executive three large-scale events per year in collaboration with CIS staff. Project manage all aspects of the career fairs and events including venue logistics, employer recruitment, and event staffing. * Develop new employer events such as tabling and site visits that connect students to opportunities in various career fields. * Work with CIS staff and adjunct faculty in our career courses each semester to provide employer panelists and practice interviewers. * Collaborate with CIS staff and communications departments in partner colleges to develop a strategy to communicate employer programming and information to students. * Collect and track data in order to evaluate the success of employer programming. * Collaborate across career services offices on University-wide employer events/initiatives such as the UMN Job & Internship Fair and Career Development Network (CDN) Employer Relations Committee. Manage Online Recruiting System, Handshake - 20% * Leverage the Handshake system to maintain and improve the quality and efficiency of various career services functions such as events and fairs, job postings, on-campus interviews, employer and contacts database, experience tracking system, and career and job related data reports * Serve on campus-wide committees/subcommittees charged with development and maintenance of the Handshake system as the office Handshake superuser. Training will be provided. * Operate as the Handshake expert and troubleshoot problems which may arise for students, employers, and internal and external UMN staff in their use of their respective Handshake portals. * Provide training and updates to student staff on the system through maintaining Handshake policies and procedures manual. Take initiative updating as policy decisions and new features are formed. * Oversee the approval and expansion of internship learning agreements, jobs and employers, event request, and student resume submissions in partnership with student staff and Associate Director for Employer Relations for Handshake. Professional Development & Service - 5% * Participate in meetings, conferences and events to develop and expand professional skills including a commitment to ongoing social justice and racial equity work. * Research and stay informed in local, state, and national employment trends and labor market issues. * Maintain involvement in state and national professional associations (MNACE, NACE, MCUCSA, etc.).
Qualifications
Required Qualifications Employer Relations Coordinator: * Bachelor's degree plus at least four years of experience or master's degree plus at least two years of relevant experience in relationship development, college recruiting, higher education or related field. * Must possess a dynamic, professional demeanor with a motivated and enthusiastic work style. * Documented experience in building strong relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders including students, employers, alumni, faculty and staff. * Experience creating, planning, and executing events with strong attention to detail. * Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to confidently and positively represent the University to employers. High level of comfort with networking. * Proven commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and a passion for supporting the career development and success of all students. * Demonstrated history of providing excellent customer service. * Exceptional organization, written and oral communication skills. * Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team. * Ability to work occasional evenings. Additional Required for Senior Employer Relations Coordinator: * Bachelor's degree plus at least five years of experience or master's degree plus at least three years of relevant experience in relationship development, college recruiting, higher education or related field. * Expert knowledge of college recruiting best practices, including online job databases, career fairs, and on-campus recruiting. * Significant experience creating, planning, and executing events with strong attention to detail. Preferred Qualifications * Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, human resource management, or a related discipline. * Proficiency with technology and systems such as Handshake, Salesforce, or other CRMs * Experience in marketing and program implementation. * Experience collecting and analyzing data; ability to utilize data to drive strategy. * Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and successfully within a changing environment. * Familiarity with the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities campus.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range for Employer Relations Coordinator (Pro-3) : $56,000 - $60,000 Pay Range for Senior Employer Relations Coordinator (Pro-4): $60,500 - $69,000 Time Appointment: 100% Appointment Position Type: Professional Academic (P&A) Please visit the Office of Human Resources website for more information regarding benefit eligibility.
