Temporary Research Assistant - Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior

The position provides research assistance in diverse data, lab and field research activities. The researcher will assist postdoctoral scientists, graduate students, and fellow undergrads in Jacques Finlay's lab in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior. Primary duties will include collecting and analyzing physical, chemical and biological data from lakes, streams, and wetlands in Minnesota, especially the Twin Cities area. Field activities will include sampling of lakes, ponds, and streams for water quality parameters. Lab activities will include preparation of field equipment, filtering and processing water samples, and analyzing them for water quality variables. Data activities include curation, management and analyses of data, including data from partners and publicly available datasets.

Required Qualifications:
Qualifications include strong work ethic and motivation to contribute to freshwater research, basic quantitative skills, willingness to engage in learning new skills, organization and attention to details, and ability to collaborate in all aspects of the position.

Preferred Qualifications.
Skills with phosphorus analyses using wet chemical methods, and familiarity with R.

EEB is part of the College of Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota and is one of the University's most highly-ranked units. The department is located in the Ecology Building on the St. Paul campus, but also has two major field stations where students and faculty conduct field research. Many of the research collections of the Bell Museum are also located in the Ecology Building, and the department is an affiliated department of the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory.

Pay Range: $18.00-$20.00/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
