Summary

At DSV Road Inc., The Operational Account Manager, Drayage plays a strategic role and is responsible for driving commercial growth in the drayage segment-particularly for import container freight. This individual acts as a key liaison between shippers, consignees, port terminals, and carrier partners to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant container movement. The ideal candidate combines a strong operational understanding of drayage logistics with business development acumen to grow revenue, expand market share, and deliver best-in-class customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities



  • Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of import/export drayage accounts-ensuring exceptional service delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Strategically grow assigned accounts through consultative selling, solution design, and execution excellence.
  • Actively prospect and commercially drive new import drayage opportunities-identifying market gaps and developing tailored solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with port and rail drayage carriers, including owner-operators and small fleets.
  • Negotiate rates with carriers and customers to ensure margin integrity while remaining competitive in the market.
  • Collaborate with internal operations, pricing, and capacity teams to ensure successful pickup, delivery, and lifecycle management of each shipment.
  • Track shipments proactively from pickup to final delivery; communicate any service disruptions or delays with solutions in hand.
  • Analyze customer activity and lane data to uncover trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Stay current on port congestion trends, chassis availability, terminal protocols, and evolving regulations affecting import drayage.
  • Execute resolution strategies quickly in response to service issues, delivery delays, or accessorial disputes.
  • Leverage TMS and CRM tools to ensure complete shipment documentation and timely invoicing.



Educational background / Work experience



  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum 1-2 years of drayage experience, particularly within import container transport.
  • Proven track record in account management, customer service, or logistics operations.
  • Ability to commercially drive business through prospecting, proposal development, and relationship selling.
  • Working knowledge of port operations, steamship lines, container terminals, and intermodal ramps.

Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of logistics or brokerage experience, with an emphasis on import drayage.
  • Existing book of business or carrier relationships in key port markets
  • Familiarity with chassis pools, PierPass, demurrage/detention billing, and port technology platforms



Language skills



  • English (Reading, Writing, Verbal).



Computer Literacy



  • Technically proficient in TMS platforms, Microsoft Excel, and CRM systems.
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint.

DSV Road Inc. employees are hired for an undefined period of time as "at will" employees. For this position, the expected base pay is: $56,500 - $77,000/ Annual. Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, geographical location, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
